  1. One thing we covered in my ski clinic today was how we need to treat ourselves like we treat our students. No yelling. No name calling.

Seriously. If a student told me their last instructor treated them like my inner voices treat me, I'd demand a name and try to get that person fired.

  2. I haven't accomplished much thus far today, but I did get my winter boss contacted about my proposed schedule.

If it's approved, I won't have many more hours than last year, but I'll have a few.

I'm really excited to get to teach more people how to ski. So come on, snow!

  3. Taught my final lesson of the year, which is bittersweet. SO proud of what I helped these kids accomplish in 6 weeks.

But also bummed because spring. Bleh. The only thing worse than spring is summer.

  4. Thing I tell my beginner ski students that most don't believe: They should be incredibly proud of themselves for showing up. It really takes a lot to try a new, scary thing. They're all superstars and I wish they knew it.

  5. #SkiInstructor Chronicals: Helped someone today who was previously taught a breaking wedge and put right on a chair by an inept ski school. Had to work out A LOT of trauma and I applaud her bravery to try skiing again after a textbook example of a BAD first lesson.

  6. In personal #SkiInstructor news: I passed the PSIA Level 1 Exam today. I credit pushing my limits, helpful trainers, the support of my fellow candidates, and the lucky Glaceon I had in my pocket.

  7. My favorite animal to ski like was preying mantis, which got us leaning forward and shifting our balance from ski to ski by aiming our hands where we want to go, but the kid favorite was birds. 🦜 We all agreed flailing our limbs around like we decided an octopus would do was ineffective. 🐙 Opinions were split on hopping like a bunny. 🐇

  8. I taught a ski lesson yesterday where we pretended to be different animals all session. (It's a great way to "trick" kids into learning what's effective and what isn't while they think they're just playing around.) And we all had a lot of fun.

  9. Conditions for the lesson I taught last night were extremely challenging. I really hope next week has easy snow so the kids can see they're rock stars despite struggling some yesterday.

  10. Have a lesson tonight with a group who had an unexpected 3 week gap in their 6 week sequence. I really hope they've retained the last lesson and are still ready for the more challenging terrain they were itching to get to. Working on plans for getting them back OR moving them onward.

  11. Despite all the rain yesterday, I had a young student exclaim, "This is the most fun I've ever had!" And that right there is why I LOVE to teach skiing.

  12. The rain sounds like it will be bad tomorrow, but I've been really been looking forward to getting a new group of younglings to mold into skiers, and I'm NOT to going to let them have a miserable experience just because of the weather!

  13. If you're curious, ski schools still run even if it's pouring rain. And I have a multiweek class starting tomorrow. So I have until then to figure out how to keep the attention of 8yos I haven't met yet who are experiencing their first day of skiing in what's promising to be heavy rain.

I'm thinking of leading with something about water type Pokémon... Which means I need to refresh myself on those as I mostly focus on ice types. :)

    Wish me luck!

  14. Taught my first Day 1 lesson yesterday for multi week school program. I felt like I was messing up a lot early on, but you know what? Every one of my students made it down the carpet area without falling by the end and they were begging for an extra run before I handed them back to their school. So they learned AND had fun. And they're looking forward to coming back next week, which was actually my main goal. :)
