Aaaand… Actions For Obsidian 2026.1 is out! This update for my #Obsidian #automation tool brings lots of bug fixes, ups the lower bar to #iOS 18.4 and #macOS 15.4, and does important prep work for <redacted>.

@BasementDweller3000 Not worth it IMO. With #ShortcutsApp on #macOS you can run shell scripts, which gives access to as many programming languages as you want.

Can the #JavaScript version do the same as #AppleScript? Yes in theory, but the lack of documentation makes it impractical. And there are less and less AppleScript-supporting apps.

Nowadays if I need AppleScript is for some tiny detail and I just ask an LLM for it.

Exciting hidden #ShortcutsApp actions are being found* this weekend!

For example, this #shortcut obtains the identifier of an action that you copy to the clipboard, which then can be used to detect if its app is installed in the device:

About to hit the nuke button on my #shortcutsapp and rid all my #shortcuts from the app due to these sync issues. Tired of seeing my shortcuts out of sync between devices. All of my shortcuts are in folders on the Mac and iPhone but I go to my iPad and they are vomited everywhere. Going to delete all my shortcuts and hope it removes from all devices then automate restoring each shortcut back into the app from my backup and sync. Using #keyboardmaestro to perform screen clicks while I sleep.

Diesmal mit neuem Antrieb am Crosser und der Antwort auf die Frage „Marcus, warum fährst du nur ein 34er Kettenblatt, hast du keine Körner in den Beinen?“, meiner Schwäche für Apfelkraut und dem Problem das hier in der Region zu bekommen, der Ablösung von MonitorControl durch BetterDisplay, dem wohl simpelsten Anwendungsszenario für die Shortcuts App auf iOS, einem Kommentarsystem für statische Websites/Blogs und wie immer Techno.

Of course, nerdery helps. The #ShortcutsApp portion is only possible because of being able to start multiple timers in the #ios17beta.

And it helps that my fellow #AliceIsMissing players are all #obsidian users, so I was able to send them a simple Markdown file so they’d have a way to take notes before we start tomorrow.

This feels alright. Obsidian would need to "entitle" AfO to cut down more running time, and even then it is impossible to hide Obsidian during the workflow due to the type of API offered by Obsidian, and because Actions for Obsidian is a 3rd party implementation. #ExpectationManagement

Next up: implementing the onboarding, then TestFlight.
