"The United Nations reported that this October — peak olive harvest season in the West Bank — saw the highest number of settler attacks in the area since it began documenting them in 2006. Over 260 attacks were recorded, an average of eight per day.

This is a serious acceleration of violence, but it is not new or isolated. Since the attacks of Oct. 7, 2023, over 1,000 Palestinians in the West Bank have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers; one in every five dead is a child. In the same period, over 3,000 Palestinians say they have been displaced from their homes and lands largely because of Israeli settler violence.

Most Israelis rarely think about the West Bank. Many are not aware of the daily violence and displacement of Palestinians and, as is the case with domestic coverage of the war in Gaza, Israeli mainstream media seldom show the reality on the ground. When they do, it is presented as the exception instead of what is clearly policy. The map Israelis see on nightly weather forecasts and the one used in most classrooms shows what is known as Greater Israel, an area of land that stretches from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River. On it, there is no demarcation of the pre-1967 borders, known as the Green Line, between Israel and the Palestinian territories."

"There is nothing especially unusual or exceptionally dramatic on this day of olive harvest. This is the reality of so many Palestinian families in the Occupied West Bank, whose every aspect of their daily lives is dictated by an army of a state which is not their own.

While the world has its eyes on the Gaza Strip and the atrocities that our government commits there, we mustn’t let go of the fact that settler violence is on the rise in the West Bank, and action is needed to be taken there as well.

Our van was driving westwards, approaching the Green Line (the pre-1967 border), which separates the State of Israel from the West Bank. There we had to pass through an army checkpoint in order to get back into Israel.

A soldier ordered us to stop, and peeked inside our minibus. It was full of disheveled activists, wearing bilingual purple T-shirts. “Where are you coming from?” he asked. No use lying, was it? It’s not as if we could pass for tourists.

“We come from the olive harvest at Deir Ammar.” The soldier looked back at us with blank eyes. He didn’t expect this answer. He seemed to be exhausted from merely having to think about it. “Just go,” he said. So we went. •"

"By virtually any measure, the #ConfederatedSalishKootenai Tribal Nation is an incredible success story against all odds. Forcibly removed from their homeland in the Bitterroot Valley, despite not having waged war against the white settlers or army, their own '#TrailOfTears' brought them to the Flathead Valley to live within the boundaries of the vastly reduced lands they retained in the #HellgateTreatyOf1855.

"Although the #HellgateTreaty is widely regarded as one of the best treaties signed by any of the nation’s #IndigenousPeople, even land supposedly reserved for the exclusive habitation of the #SalishKootenai was opened to purchase by non-tribal #settlers by the #DawesAct of 1887.

"The act’s intentions were to allocate reservation lands the tribes already owned to individual families as private property and, as part of the 'civilization' of #NativeAmericans, it required tribal members to register with the federal government to receive their 'allotment.'

"The entire debacle was part of the #AllotmentAndAssimilationEra from 1887 to 1934. Simply put, the federal government’s plan was to force Native Americans to be 'assimilated' into #EuropeanAmerican culture.

"Importantly, any reservation lands not allocated to tribal members was deemed
'surplus' land and opened to purchase by non-tribal settlers. This excursion into #ReservationLands was further exacerbated by the ability of tribal members to sell their allotment parcels to non-tribal members.

"The fracturing of the Salish-Kootenai’s tribal lands through sales to non-tribal members continues to cause serious problems today, including the long and on-going battle to retain their #water, #hunting and #fishing #TreatyRights.

"Article III of the Hellgate Treaty could not be more clear regarding the Tribe’s fishing rights: 'The exclusive right of taking fish in all the streams running through or bordering said reservation is further secured to said Indians; as also the right of taking fish at all usual and accustomed places…'

"Yet, just last month the Confederated Salish-Kootenai Tribal Nation issued a very serious warning to tribal members regarding the fish they have treaty rights to catch because they are poisoned.

"The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes issued a fish consumption advisory on June 24, 2025, warning tribal citizens not to eat fish due to the presence of Polychlorinated biphenyls (#PCBs), #dioxins and #furans at levels deemed unsafe for humans: Source: Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes

"The #FishConsumptionAdvisory urges 'all tribal members to avoid consuming all species and sizes of fish harvested from the lower Clark Fork River from the Bitterroot River near Missoula to the Flathead River near Paradise. Recent testing has confirmed the presence of polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxins and furans in fish at levels that are unsafe for consumption by Tribal peoples. It is also advisable to avoid consuming rainbow trout and northern pike harvested from the Bitterroot River and the upper Clark Fork River above the Bitterroot River to Rock Creek, and, to avoid consuming rainbow trout from the Blackfoot River.

"As the Advisory explains: 'These contaminants pose a health risk to all fish consumers, and an even greater health risk to the most sensitive members of the Tribal population including women of child bearing age, pregnant nursing women, and young children. These contaminants have been linked to negative health effects in the immune, and nervous systems and may be associated with birth defects…PCBs and dioxins are classified as probable and definite #HumanCarcinogens, respectively.'

"So what good are treaty fishing rights if you can’t eat the fish because they’re poisoned? Are they really 'rights' — or is this just another in our nation’s long and shameful history of abrogating its treaties with Native Americans?

"Moreover, #Montana’s poison fish affect us all. Just as our government has failed the Salish-Kootenai, they have likewise failed to uphold our rights to the 'swimmable/fishable waters' guaranteed by the #CleanWaterAct — because no one, tribal or non-tribal, is immune to poisoned fish."

Genocidio a Gaza
La mattanza dell’esercito israeliana a Gaza è sempre più sanguinaria. Ieri, sono state uccise dalle bombe e pallottole delle truppe di Tel Aviv 80 persone e ferite 189. L’esercito israeliano ha ordinato agli abitanti di alcuni quartieri di Rafah di lasciare le loro case, “perché le truppe stanno per iniziare un’offensiva di terra”.
Il numero delle vittime dalla rottura della tregua, il 18 marzo, è stato di 1.001 civili uccisi e 2.359 feriti.
Dall’inizio del conflitto, il numero degli uccisi accertati ha superato i 50 mila uccisi. La statistica del ministero della sanità fornisce la cifra di 50.357 uccisi. I feriti sono 114.400.  Alle cifre indicate vanno aggiunti gli scomparsi.
Netanyahu ha minacciato ieri di intensificare le operazioni militari per la deportazione della popolazione “secondo i piani di Trump”. Dopo le minacce, migliaia di famiglie hanno lasciato Rafah verso la zona costiera di Khan Younis, Al-Mawassi. Il Commissario dell’Unrwa, Lazzarini, ha condannato gli ordini dell’esercito israeliano all’evacuazione di Rafah: “Le persone vengono lanciate come palle per ordine militare”, ha aggiunto sull’account social: “Come se la morte, la distruzione e la fame non bastassero”.

Oday Nasser Al-Rabayi
La famiglia Al-Rabayi, di Tall el Hawa, per bocca del figlio Jihad, ha denunciato che Oday Nasser è stato assassinato da un gruppo di miliziani armati, che si è presentato come Brigate Qassam. Un assassinio brutale, avvenuto dopo averlo catturato sotto gli occhi di familiari e altre persone presenti. La missione punitiva criminale sembra motivata dalla partecipazione di Oday alle manifestazioni per la fine della guerra e contro Hamas, che hanno mobilitato centinaia di palestinesi nel nord della Striscia. Il corpo del ragazzo di 22 anni, ucciso e con segni di torture, è stato depositato di notte davanti alla casa di famiglia. La famiglia non ha avuto paura ed ha denunciato il caso e si è appellata agli uomini onesti di Hamas di individuare gli assassini e punirli.

Cisgiordania
A Massafer Yatta, coloni protetti dai soldati hanno attaccato un gruppo di pastori palestinesi nella località di Rohoum, a sud di el-Khalil.
A sud di Nablus, i coloni ebrei israeliani, sempre protetti dai soldati, hanno sradicato con bulldozer gli olivi dei contadini di Beita.
Le operazioni militari dell’esercito sono incessanti con distruzioni e devastazioni e con l’arresto di centinaia di attivisti e militanti. L’azione più violenta di ieri è avvenuta a Qabatia, a sud di Jenin.

Gerusalemme est occupata
L’associazione israeliana Ir Amim ha rivelato che la commissione per la colonizzazione ha approvato ieri 6 progetti di allargamento delle colonie ad est di Gerusalemme occupata. Saranno costruite 2200 unità abitative, sia per allargare insediamenti esistenti sia per crearne dei nuovi. Dall’inizio di gennaio 2025, sono state approvate 11.575 unità abitative nella zona, mentre le case ed interi quartieri e villaggi palestinesi sono a rischio demolizione con relativa deportazione degli abitanti nativi. A Gerusalemme est nel 2024 sono state demolite 337 case di cittadini palestinesi.

Prigionieri
Il ministro della sicurezza interna, Bin Gvir, si è vantato che, dal momento nel quale ha preso le redini del ministero, le condizioni dei detenuti palestinesi sono diventate un inferno: “non ci sono più i negozi interni e i detenuti non hanno più averi o somme di denaro; non ci sono più docce calde; l’ora d’aria è stata ridotta; le razioni sono state ridotte al minimo solo necessarie per la sopravvivenza; nessuna struttura di rappresentanza e cancellata ogni trattativa; niente istruzione e nessun libro entra; nessuna cura medica”. Ha dimenticato di aggiungere che sono state vietate le visite dei familiari e degli avvocati.

Libano
L’esercito israeliano è tornato a colpire la capitale libanese Beirut. Un attacco missilistico lanciato dai caccia di Tel Aviv sulla zona sud della città, considerata la roccaforte di Hezbollah. Israele continua a violare la tregua firmata il 27 novembre scorso, con il pretesto di colpire i dirigenti ed i capi militari del partito.
