  1. Well, this is annoying.

I have some little power #modules (bought on #AliExpress, natch) that were advertised as automatic boost/buck converters. Input from <4V to >30V, output from 1.25V to 35V.

They're based on the XL6009 switching converter, which supports auto-buck-boost as one mode.

But they appear to use it in boost-only mode. The output voltage can not go below the input as far as I can tell. From the datasheet, it looks like that's because the auto-buck-boost config requires a few more components, plus a transformer instead of a simple inductor, which is probably the main reason (BOM).

The listing just seems to be ... wrong.

    Annoying.

Not only do I help set the right listing price, but I also offer a realistic expectation for how long it will take your home to sell. Take a look at the article below to see some of the ways I like to form a strong relationship with my clients. If you think I am the right agent to help you sell you home, I would be happy to share more of my perspective on the market and how I run my business. Let me know if you would like to schedule a free listing consultation, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the market or your future real estate plans. 8 tips for a great relationship with your real estate agent Setting clear expectations and doing the groundwork for a successful relationship with your agent will ensure your selling and buying experience is stress-free and can even be fun! … Read Article Contact me to schedule a free consultation! 14. "This is a trustworthy company", company says on its photos-of-our-office display beneath its product listings.

The photos are very clearly renders - including The Sims-like not-remotely-actually-human-at-all workers standing in weird stiff poses - and then the company logo has been badly added to the reception desk and wall later with image-editing software, not even included in the original render.

So stock non-photo render of an office that doesn't exist, populated with people that don't exist, for a company that might be one guy working nude in a garden shed.

    "Trustworthy company" 😉

  15. #AliExpress / cheap #Chinese goods / #questionable sellers, part 37:

    1. Order #rechargeable 3-speed folding desk #fan.
    2. Receive different version of same fan - no #electronics, no #battery, just a USB lead, it runs at one speed when plugged in, unplug it to turn off.
    3. File "item not as described" ticket with photos clearly showing it's the wrong item.
    4. AliExpress rejects ticket, the human who spent 0.3s reviewing it didn't read it and just clicked "#reject".
    5. Edit #photos, adding big red "NO BATTERY HERE -->" and "NO ELECTRONICS HERE -->" etc and resubmit ticket.
    6. AliExpress accepts claim this time. Get refund.
    7. Place order for same rechargeable fan from different #seller.
    8. Receive fan. #Charge. Give to partner.

"It turns off after a few seconds", she says.

Take it apart. Examine the circuit board, #probe it various ways, all looks good. #Measure #voltages. Manually #power the fan and see it draws half an #amp. See the suspiciously undersized lithium-ion #cell and think "they didn't just #cheap out so much that the thing doesn't work, did they?"...

Yup. The plastic casing has a slot & tabs arrangement inside sized for an 18650 cell, but they've got a much smaller cell in there with some padding to keep it in place. It's a 14500.

When the fan's on, the load is too much for the cell. The voltage drops enough that the little 3-speed management #chip thinks the cell is flat, and it turns off.

Put in a good 18650, runs like a charm.

    Sheesh.
