Nestled along the remote northern coast of the Olympic Peninsula, the quiet harbor of Sekiu, Washington offers a timeless portrait of Pacific Northwest fishing life. Under a vivid autumn sky, a fleet of weathered boats rests peacefully in the calm, protected waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Just got back to #CoosBay
The drive down 101 was foggy, marine layer haze all along the coast, had to use my fog wipers
#Sekiu is far enough north from here that sunset is 18 minutes later!
This concludes another episode of #CampingWithJeff !

325 miles from #Sekiu to Salem
We took 9 hours instead of the recommended time for the highlighted route
Life in the slow lane and slow vehicle pullouts
We stopped every hour or so to stretch our legs and let the dogs out
Even on the freeway where it is posted 70 and 60 for trucks, we stayed at 60~65
It was 90f most of the day and the heavy loads and hot temperatures contributed to the multiple mechanical problems we had on the way up #CampingWithJeff

This was my first time back since graduating, so that was fun
I will be back next year the Fun Days summer festival for sure!
Edit: added one last sunset shot

Battery was old, but charging system is faulty that caused the problem
Should produce 14 volts not 11. Come on man, give me at least 12v man!
Not an alternator or generator but magneto system

Our family moved here in 1976 when I was a sophomore in high school
Graduated in 1980 and moved away for college
My parents stayed here until 1884 so I would come back for summer
Haven’t been back since 1984!

#Sekiu and Clallam Bay are having their summer festival this week
Went to the “street fair” this afternoon
There were about a dozen booths of crafts and six food stalls
I introduced myself to anyone who looked old enough to have been in high school in 1979
Met a few old friends that we knew were going to be there and a few older folks that remember our parents

Fogged out at 5:00, went back to bed. Donny just went out at 08:00 even though still foggy. I’m too scared to go out in it on purpose. Was scary enough when it rolled in while we were out there the other day.
Always head south until you hear the waves and they will be American waves not Canadian

Going for a ride to Port Angeles and Hurricane Ridge
Follow along here
#CampingWithJeff #Sekiu #HarleDavidson
Tracking link is expired.
The National Park wants $30 per car $25 per motorcycle, so we skipped Hurricane Ridge.
The ride around Lake Crescent was beautiful though and we got a few things we needed in Port Angeles, the nearest town to Sekiu an hour and a half drive away

First real chance of rain so far on the expedition.
We will be heading home on the 14th, so the rest of the week looks good!

Weather is nice, fishing, not so much. Hooked one just under the 22 inch minimum and released it. #CampingWithJeff #Sekiu
Edit: Brought home a Lingcod! Not salmon, but pretty good eats. This fish cost a $1000 a pound with what we’ve spent so far.
-
Gone fishing!
Track our course as we troll for salmon at #Sekiu

Took the bikes up to Lake Ozette.
I spent a lot of time there, mostly hiking out to the ocean beach from there.
Only a few miles, flat, largely boardwalk over the swamp
I had several friends in high school that lived along the Hoko River road too.

Here is Donny coming back across the bay heading for the docks at 11:35. left at 04:00! looks small out there!
-
THE EAGLES ARE HERE! THE EAGLES ARE HERE!
About 10 of them, some are landing on the beach too and others are perched in the treetops
Edit: added new photo. Just saw one swoop low overhead with a fish. Three others chasing it! One forced a fumble and recovered said fish!
