In a meeting, we're discussing someone's PhD plans.
How best to design this retrospective study, how to approach that prospective study, how to implement a technique to better monitor disease, discover early relapse of cancer.
All are paying attention, me and others are involved, asking questions.
Someone's asking, about the results and reporting to MD's, "if they need further explanation, do they know who they gonna call?"

This single-author paper is my first ever. I did have one with 2 authors, which was great, but my previous first author paper was in the Euclid context and had 436 authors...
Still scared because I have no idea if this is a rather trivial contribution or if it's really adding to astrophysics. At least it's a first, to use the z=6 black hole to galaxy scaling relations to calculate total black hole mass at z=6 and then interprete this.

A good general rule in science is this:
"If you are not beating up on your own work as much as you are beating up on _other people's_ work, then STFU."
There is nothing that I hate worse than so-called "selective rigor."
Fortunately, the vast majority of people I know who work in science follow this rule pretty well. But I have run into a few exceptions. And they tend to cause more chaos and problems than anything else.

#ScienceLife paradoxes:
The one that's always late for meetings, complains someone else 5 min delay.
The one who takes *months* or infinite to answer emails, says "hey you took more than 48 h to answer!".
The one with the blurriest/low res images fiercely criticizes every pic.
