The National Center for Atmospheric Research based in #Colorado is a #NSF program that enables broadly the entire research and academic communities across the USA to operate properly.
Last December, OMB made the shocking announcement that it intended to dismantle #NCAR

Their supercomputer -just finished in 2023- derecho allows them to finally start high resolution #climate and #weather simulations that have been the envy of researchers globally.
« The computing center, which is slated to be turned over to an unspecified third party, runs weather and climate research models and is used by about 1,500 researchers from over 500 universities around the country. The work done on this supercomputer benefits the American people by leading to more accurate forecasts of extreme weather and climate events, aircraft turbulence and more. »
