... This leads to a #RuleOfThumb: Respect others, because you might unknowingly depend on them respecting you and those you care about.
Note that “respect” does not require acceptance. If actions of others lead to “bad” results, then those actions can be considered bad also. I try to allow for the possibility of unknown “good” consequences that might ultimately override what I consider bad; so such judgments are provisional.

Some perspective on abortion: it (along with high contraception) is needed to maintain low population growth, as would be needed to maintain consumption below critical resource limits as we now have. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3709011/
#RuleOfThumb: Banning abortion, contraception, and environmental protection is the same as promoting mass death.

#RuleOfThumb: You don't get rid of evil by killing people. You get rid of evil by changing how people think. But if they refuse to think then you've got a bigger problem.

Here's a handy heuristic or rule of thumb:
If it's AI and you're not paying money to interact? Datamining/training scam.
If it's AI and you're paying to interact? Just a regular scam.
Please do not be the sort of turniphead that does these companies work for free.

…wow, this, too:
“a clumsier but more accurate corollary…:
"‘Never attribute to malice or stupidity that which can be explained by moderately rational individuals following incentives in a complex system.’”

Just writing down a reminder to myself, as many times as I think I've learned it, I haven’t:
“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.”
…I never really know what someone else is going through. Let's not assume hate and anger.

Speaking of #meetings: if you do not come out of one having a new concrete to-do, you shouldn't have been there.

My new #RuleOfThumb for #live #bar #music
The level of enjoyment of the band is inversely proportional to the amount of effects pedals they have brought with them.

Heard a great proverb today:
If one person is being an asshole, I met one asshole today.
If two people are being assholes, I met two assholes today.
If three people are being assholes, I’m the asshole.

Assuming electricity cost of ~0.20€/KWh, every 1W of always-on device costs you ~1.75€ per year (0.001 * 24 * 365 * 0.2 = 1.752).
So that old TV that sips 30W on standby costs you 50€ per year to have plugged in.

An important #RuleOfThumb for all #Photos and #Video you share @MidSVGal is to take a minute to DESCRIBE your content for the Visually Impaired #VI and #Blind. I've been schooled long ago by @Lynessence and grateful to know how to do this: #WatchAndLearn USE #ALTTxt descriptions: Don't say It's a DOG, describe it! (Mouse over photo below, to see my attempt at describing this candy?)

#RuleOfThumb If you’re a white person, take a beat before you advise, comment, or critique a post from a Black or brown person. Challenge yourself to discover the hidden context, that you certainly do not possess. In other words, #DoYourHomework before you complain about, exclude, or correct folks.
This wouldn’t be necessary if we had a decent collective sense of history, but we don’t, oh well.
