I arrive to the office this morning to see it will delivered at home (as I asked, since I work from home 4 days/week) today. The one day I work from the office (not even the closest one), and have client meetings.

Wah it is Monday morning for sure!
Was lucky enough to make it to Delft train station, got my bike, raced to the office. When I arrived, it turns out that all the lifts were out of order, so I had to drag myself, my backpack, my big textbooks, and my sports bag up 5 flights of stairs.
After dropping off everything I didn't need, I wanted to leave my building so I could go to the building where my lecture was, only to find that the *door* was out of order.
Arriving at the lecture hall, I discovered that my Acrobat reader had died, so I had to uninstall and reinstall. That finally done, I had my slides up on the big screen and started my lecture, only for my laptop to crash when I tried to navigate to slide 2.
While it rebooted, I improvised the first part of my lecture without slides. The lecture hall was super cold, so I wanted to get tea, but the machine wasn't working...
After all the train and laptop problems I had on Friday, I can hardly blame Monday morning for this, but still 😳
At the end of the lecture a lot of questions from students that started with "Sorry, you probably covered this, but I missed the first part of the lectures because my train wasn't running..."
Students were cool, tho, so that was nice!

Sometimes ya gotta laugh..
So Im tryna put a pi OS on an sdcard.. stick it in.. and my new laptop says.. no you didnt.. so Ive been playing that game for an hour. It finally saw one and I immediately said Flash Now
I member sayin how easy this was gonna be.. and immediately regretted it after I pushed post lolol

More "fun". Ice fell from the roof and blocked the exit from our grey water system.
No baths, laundry or showers until I thaw that pipe.
Not difficult but we've only had 1 of our 4 Xmas gatherings, lots of prep still to do.

- finally finding a broken transistor and replaced it temporarily.
- mounting back the pcb. Only finding three of the four screws, oh well, it's probably on the floor somewhere.
- plugging in the power to test before finishing up. Sparks flying.
- finding the missing screw lodged in under the power supply, shorting done high voltage parts.
- something's telling me I might need more parts....

I decided to tackle the slow drain on the bathroom sink. After plunging, nope, went for removing the drainpipes and trap. Ewww.
Cleared the drain, but popped the cheap retaining clips and the putty seal because it was piped so poorly.
So now it leaks and wobbles.

There is a #MurphysLaw or something about reading the directions when all else fails. In this case, looking closely at 2 power wiring dongles and realizing one works and is documented both *Upside or Down*. I finally checked why the lights were in different order on the top labels. Turns out, that is correct.

There is a family of Cooper's Hawks that hangs out in our neighborhood. Multiple times a day I see the juvenile swoop and land on the same branch of our neighbor's tree.
Finally the weather is nice, I have my camera out with the right lens and the window is open. Let's see if Murphy's law will give me a break today. Stand by....

Die Züge der #NahSH haben zur Sicherung nur diese Ösen hinter den Sitzen.
Das Sicherungskonzept mit solchen Ösen setzt voraus, dass...
1. Verbindungselemente wie Gurte oder passende Schlösser verfügbar sind. Randreisende müssen diese mitbringen und können im Zug nicht mehr reagieren, sie sie haben zufällig was passendes dabei. Zufall ist quasi das Konzept "Glück" #MurphysLaw grüßt zwinkernd.
Die Ösen sind für viele, meist mitgeführte, Schlösser zu schmal oder unzugänglich.

I spent half an hour underneath the sink - tight squeeze! - with the water running in various ways and didn't see a drop anywhere. I have a good bright "trouble light" I use for this.
I now have paper towels spread out covering the whole bottom of the cabinet, to try to find where drops land.
It's basically #MurphysLaw , as always 😉

I did not bring a camera (because it was a Social Nature Walk) so of course I saw this merganser family adorably lined up on a log AND one of the babies (!) catch and scarf a crayfish!

Definitely of the same ilk, though Murphy's Law was more about circumstance and misfortune, and Orwell (esp. in context) is talking about misjudgment (lambasting the British government for not occupying Vichy French territories before the Germans, against treaty, exploited them -- Syria, in particular).

Both this and Murphy's Law itself come from the WW2 era -- as does another relative, Heller's Catch-22. I wonder if there was something about that conflict, or that era, that gave rise to that sort of cynicism / pessimism (perhaps in reaction to WW1 not turning out to have been the War to End All Wars), or if there are predecessors that haven't gotten as much press.

Service Canada can leave you on hold for an unpredictable length of time. But, with diabolical timing, an agent always seems to answer right when I need to use the washroom.
And no, I won't do my business and talk at the same time...I worked inbound customer service for a major bank when I was in University, and heard quite enough of that, thanks. Their jobs are bad enough. lol.
