Arti Shuffle Jonge Musici: A Journey Through Song

Tenor Jason Li and pianist Isaac Lam, a Hong Kong duo based in Amsterdam, present an evening celebrating the richness and diversity of the art song repertoire. Their programme opens with Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe, one of the most beloved song cycles in the German Lied tradition, followed by Maurice Ravel's Histoires Naturelles and selected songs by Florence Price and Charles Ives.
Jason Li is currently completing his Master's degree in Classical Voice at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he studies with Sasja Hunnego. Before moving to the Netherlands, he performed extensively in Hong Kong, appearing as the tenor soloist in Meine Hoffnung meine Freunde and I-solate with HK Singfest, as well as taking operatic roles including Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni and Danilo in Lehár's The Merry Widow. His artistic interests centre on the expressive possibilities of song and opera, bringing poetry and storytelling to life through performance.
Isaac Lam is a répétiteur, composer, and pianist based in Amsterdam. He is a freelance répétiteur with the Dutch National Opera Studio and an Associate Répétiteur at the Dutch National Opera Academy. A graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, he has recently worked on productions including Verdi's Simon Boccanegra, conducted Pergolesi's La serva padrona from the harpsichord, and performed in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw. Alongside his work as a collaborative pianist, he holds a Master's degree in Composition from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. His music has been performed by ensembles including the Mivos Quartet and the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble.

Stap aan boord voor de feestelijke presentatie van Waterpoes, de nieuwe botofictie van Gabriël Kousbroek.
In Waterpoes neemt Kousbroek je mee op een surrealistische reis over het Amsterdamse water, gezien door de ogen van een eigenzinnige grachtennozem in zijn geliefde schippersvletje, de Waterpoes. Met verhalen en tekeningen laat hij je meedrijven door veertig jaar avontuur op de grachten: van ontmoetingen met kleurrijke figuren en botsingen met waterhufters tot nachtelijke tochten, humoristische observaties en persoonlijke herinneringen. Het boek is een ode aan het varen, aan Amsterdam en aan een leven vol onverwachte gebeurtenissen.
Tijdens de presentatie vertelt Gabriël Kousbroek over het ontstaan van het boek, leest hij voor uit Waterpoes en gaat hij in gesprek over zijn avonturen op het water, zijn liefde voor boten en zijn veelzijdige kunstenaarschap.
De middag wordt muzikaal omlijst door het turbofolktrio Motortoaster, componist en pianist Ringo Maurer en DJ Gaap.

Noam Bargil Quintet

The Noam Bargil Quintet presents contemporary jazz rooted in lyrical folk melodies, Middle Eastern musical influences, and the expressive language of hard bop and modern jazz of the 1960s.
Led by Amsterdam-based trumpeter and composer Noam Bargil, the program reflects his personal musical voice and cultural background. The music combines strong melodic storytelling, deep lyricism, energetic improvisation, and a warm, narrative approach to composition.
The quintet brings together musicians who live and work across Europe, offering a concert experience that is both intimate and dynamic. Through original compositions, the ensemble creates a dialogue between Middle Eastern colors, contemporary jazz, and Noam’s ongoing search for a personal and distinctive sound.
Lyrical, energetic, and emotionally rich, the program takes audiences on a musical journey shaped by melody, improvisation, heritage, and modern jazz.

Dit is geen pijp - dit is De Pijp!

Piet Mondriaan en Marlene Dumas, Willem Kloos en Gerard Reve, Eduard Jacobs en Boy Edgar, Berlage en De Bazel... De Pijp dankt zijn reputatie als het Quartier Latin van Amsterdam aan de vele kunstopleidingen die er gevestigd waren, van de Quellinusschool tot de Rijksakademie, maar ook aan de Tachtigers, de eerste avant-gardebeweging van Nederland. Het was zowel een uitgesproken katholieke als een joodse wijk. Hier bloeiden de theosofie en de Nieuwe Kunst, terwijl het socialisme zijn architectonische vertaling vond in de Amsterdamse School.
De Pijp is het resultaat van maar liefst zeven stadsplannen, waarvan er vijf door de gemeenteraad werden afgekeurd. De verplichte ophoging van de grond leidde tot de aanleg van extra straten, waardoor een volkswijk ontstond met prestigieuze bebouwing langs de kades en het Sarphatipark. Vanwege de relatief hoge huren werd veel onderverhuurd, waardoor De Pijp al snel uitgroeide tot een wijk van studenten, dichters en kunstenaars. Daarbij speelde ook de aanwezigheid van verschillende kunstopleidingen een belangrijke rol.
Naast de Quellinusschool, de Rijkskunstnijverheidsschool en de Rijksnormaalschool was vooral de Rijksakademie van groot belang. Deze instelling, opgericht in 1870, was de eerste kunstacademie van Europa die vrouwen toeliet. Velen van hen vestigden zich vervolgens in De Pijp. Aan het Sarphatipark verrees bovendien het eerste speciaal ontworpen gebouw met atelierwoningen van Nederland: Sarphatipark 42. Hier werkten gedurende tientallen jaren kunstenaars van uiteenlopende disciplines, onder wie Piet Mondriaan. Ook in andere woongebouwen ontstonden belangrijke ontmoetingsplaatsen voor kunstenaars, zoals de Jan Steenzolder, waar het luminisme en de Bergense School mede vorm kregen.
De wijk werd voltooid als onderdeel van Berlages Plan Zuid, deels gerealiseerd door socialistische woningcorporaties. Daardoor vonden ook tal van intellectuelen en schrijvers hier een thuis, onder wie Meijer Sluijser, Gerard van het Reve, Jan en Annie Romein en Sal Santen. Het complex De Dageraad geldt nog altijd als een van de belangrijkste monumenten van de Amsterdamse School.
Ook in de 21e eeuw blijft De Pijp een geliefde wijk voor kunstenaars, van Marlene Dumas, Leo Vroegindeweij en Jan Sierhuis tot Hugo Kaagman en Fabrice.
Cultuurhistoricus Michel Didier studeerde in 1987 af met een doctoraalscriptie over schilderkunst, muziek en poëzie. Sindsdien publiceerde hij honderden artikelen en diverse boeken over kunst, film, muziek en fotografie. Vorig jaar verscheen zijn Cultuuratlas van Amsterdam: Oud-Zuid, dit jaar volgt De Pijp en volgend jaar De Jordaan.

Rare look inside the original Arti library at the Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum is offering Arti members a unique opportunity: a rare glimpse into our original library. Guided by a curator, you’ll gain access to a selection from the complete Arti library, as it was available to artists in the nineteenth century.
A special chance to see books and journals that generations of Arti members consulted for knowledge, inspiration, and artistic development.
The library was built up from the founding of Arti in 1839 and grew into an important collection of art journals and specialist literature. In 1992, the collection was transferred to the Van Gogh Museum, where it has been preserved in its entirety.
On Monday 6 July, Arti members are invited to visit this extraordinary collection free of charge, one final time. There are three time slots available, each for a maximum of 15 participants. Places are limited.

Waar gaat het eigenlijk over? 100 jaar VPRO

Dit jaar bestaat de VPRO honderd jaar. Met ongekende vrijheid en lef vernieuwden VPRO-makers radio en televisie. Programmamaker, directeur radio en journalist Jan Haasbroek duikt terug in de geschiedenis. In zijn boek 'Waar gaat het eigenlijk over? 100 jaar VPRO' vertelt hij zelf, hij spreekt met meer dan 100 programmamakers en raadpleegt tal van andere bronnen over de woelige jaren van creativiteit, debat en controverse.
Tijdens deze middag vertelt Jan Haasbroek een op het Arti-publiek toegesneden verhaal over de VPRO als de Vrijzinnig Protestantse Radio Omroep geleid door dominees, de eigenzinnige en invloedrijke omroep van vrije geesten die het werd en hoe de omroep de toekomst in zal gaan.Jan Haasbroek (1943) is journalist, programmamaker, omroepbestuurder en hoofdredacteur. Hij leidde meer dan twintig jaar de VPRO-radio, maar werkte ook voor weekbladen (De Groene, HP) en andere omroepen (Human, TV Rijnmond, AT5). Haasbroek schreef meerdere boeken waaronder Het geheim van de spreker. In 2022 rondde hij zijn masterstudie filosofie af.

Red Light Jazz Festival

Erik Verwey Trio | Red Light Jazz Festival
On Friday 5 June, Arti et Amicitiae welcomes the Erik Verwey Trio as part of the Red Light Jazz Festival. An evening of sparkling piano jazz, lyricism and rhythmic energy, with free admission (registration required via “Reserve Tickets”).
The Amsterdam-based trio led by pianist and composer Erik Verwey presents a fresh, dynamic sound in which traditional jazz is enriched with influences from classical music, film scores and songs. Original compositions form the core of the repertoire.
Their debut album People Flow (2020) received enthusiastic international reviews and marked the start of a successful tour in the Netherlands and abroad. It was followed by About A Home and Live Encounters (featuring Hermine Deurloo), both of which were also well received.
Double bassist Hendrik Müller, known for his work with the Daahoud Salim Quartet, among other things, takes the trio’s sound to the next level with his warm, supple bass tone.
The trio’s regular drummer, Daniel van Dalen, is replaced this evening by the incredible Romanian drummer Alexia Harpa, who now lives in the Netherlands and is due to graduate from the conservatoire next month. With her energetic playing and impressive musicality, she is an indispensable force within the trio this evening.
The trio has performed at, among others, the Bali Jazz Festival and has been touring internationally since 2021. At Arti, they bring their close musical interplay to the heart of Amsterdam.

Following a fantastic first edition of the cabaret and variety show at Arti, we’re now set to host a spectacular second evening! A brand-new evening packed with sharp jokes, spot-on observations and moving songs. We’re proud to announce that Wina Ricardo, Jorn van Dam and Jannes Laven will be headlining the evening! The evening will be hosted by Violet Werner.
Does this sound like music to your ears? Then come and see these unique performers on 10 July. Three acts, three styles, each lasting 25 minutes – together making for a surprising, versatile and intimate show.
The evening is divided into two parts: a first part of about an hour followed by an interval, and a second part of about 30 minutes. In the intimate atmosphere of the society, there will be time for a drink and a good chat during the interval and afterwards.
So whether you enjoy subtle satire, personal stories or musical innovations: this evening has it all.

Comedian Wina Ricardo took to the stage for the first time in 2022, after receiving a comedy course as a birthday present. She has been unstoppable ever since. Wina is a regular at Comedy Club Haug, won the AKF Sonneveld Prize at the Amsterdam Kleinkunst Festival in April 2025, and was named the comedy talent of 2026 by both de Volkskrant and the AD. In addition, Wina makes her mark outside the theatres through her participation in Spijkers met Koppen.
Jorn van Dam is a genuine stand-up comedian with a deadpan style and a seemingly inexhaustible stream of material. He talks just as easily about fruit flies as he does about growing up in a family with no money. His thoughts dart in all directions, resulting in surprising, tasteful jokes.
Jannes Laven (1992) was born in Utrecht but grew up in down-to-earth Rotterdam, which created an inner conflict from an early age. On stage, he combines warmth and gentleness with the toughness of concrete, sharing his view of the world openly and honestly.

Storytelling - Arti Shuffle

An evening full of stories that will transport you, surprise you and sometimes linger in your mind – that’s what you can expect at our storytelling evening featuring three unique storytellers: Farah Coppola, Maarten Duinker and Joep Vermolen.
Three voices, three styles, each with their own world. From personal stories to sharp observations and tales that take you to unexpected places: every storyteller puts their own spin on what storytelling can be.
In the intimate setting of the club, there’s space to really get lost in the stories and let yourself be carried away from everyday reality for a while.
For anyone who loves powerful stories, new perspectives and an evening that feels just a little different from the usual.
Farah Coppola is a Sicilian-French storyteller based in Amsterdam. After graduating from the Mezrab Storytelling School in 2021, she began sharing her stories at various theatres and festivals both at home and abroad. In her work, she brings together the beauty of the everyday with raw, personal experiences. Recurring themes include love, family and the unexpected adventures that colour her life.
Maarten Duinker is a storyteller and a member of the Loom Storytelling Collective. In 2025, he completed the Professional Course in Storytelling at Mezrab House of Stories, where he performs regularly. As well as storytelling, he is a singer-songwriter and producer. He has a deep love of poetry and enjoys setting Dutch-language poems to music. With this concept, he has performed on various stages, from Perdu and De Kleine Komedie to the Lowlands Festival, and has also performed in Flanders, Germany and South Africa.
Joep Vermolen is the co-creator and lead actor of the awkward Netflix comedy series TOON and, together with friends, created the web series 1000% Succesvol Succes for De Speld, among other projects. He currently creates sketches about awkward dates on the Instagram channel NOU WAS LEUK and is performing his first cabaret show, NOU WAS LEUK / SO THIS WAS NICE, in Dutch and English.

This afternoon is spoken in Dutch.
In the fourth edition of the ABC, Emily Kocken will be in conversation with Dorien de Wit. She works as a writer and artist at the intersection of image, language, and perception. Her work includes text, drawings, installations, and (audio) walks. Her poetry debut Eindig de dag nooit met een vraag (De Arbeiderspers) was awarded the Poetry Debut Prize (2022).
Fresh off the press is heim, of het verhaal van mijn duizeligheid, a hybrid book and a personal exploration of the relationship between anxiety and travel, between language and a sense of home, and of what a wavering body has to say. What came first, the anxiety or the dizziness? Dorien de Wit delves into memories, calculates the distance to the spacecraft Pioneer 10, swims in icy water, travels via Street View, follows Alice down the rabbit hole, and explores the vestibular system. In clear, poetic language she weaves all of this together to understand her anxiety and ultimately set out on a journey.
This is the prose debut of a poet, on the border between memoir, essay, and poetry. Last year, a new tradition was spontaneously launched at Arti! On April 11, “De Dateleedshow” took place. Willy van der Griendt, author of the book “Daten voor gevorderden” (Dating for Advanced Users), was interviewed, during which many aspects of the hectic dating landscape were discussed. After the break, attendees had the opportunity to practice “quality encounters.” A prolonged speed-dating session emerged and became increasingly lively, to the point that Arti’s chairman Jeroen Werner exclaimed: “This is so surprising—we should do this much more often!”
On May 22, we aim to grant that wish. In Dateleedshow 2.0, Hans Kuiper will be in conversation with Willy van der Griendt, this time elevating the interview to a more serious level. The phenomenon of dating deserves it. “Live life to the fullest—but preferably not alone. Or perhaps alone, but not lonely. How do you do that?”
Now that people in the West are living longer (women on average 83.3 years and men 80.7), we want to raise the question of whether this longer life makes us happier or instead causes deep concerns. How do older people form friendships, and do they still do so? Is there still a plan, or is growing old something you simply have to undergo? Are artists different in this respect, perhaps even privileged, because they can work until their last breath and often “die in harness”? Or is growing older, in this individualistic society, simply frightening for everyone?
In addition to an in-depth interview, there will be visual material, a quiz, and a Q&A session. After the break, participants can once again gather at the long tables, where they can freely date and flirt without inhibition.

In the fourth edition of the ABC, Emily Kocken will be in conversation with Dorien de Wit. She works as a writer and artist at the intersection of image, language, and perception. Her work includes text, drawings, installations, and (audio) walks. Her poetry debut Eindig de dag nooit met een vraag (De Arbeiderspers) was awarded the Poetry Debut Prize (2022).
Fresh off the press is heim, of het verhaal van mijn duizeligheid, a hybrid book and a personal exploration of the relationship between anxiety and travel, between language and a sense of home, and of what a wavering body has to say. What came first, the anxiety or the dizziness? Dorien de Wit delves into memories, calculates the distance to the spacecraft Pioneer 10, swims in icy water, travels via Street View, follows Alice down the rabbit hole, and explores the vestibular system. In clear, poetic language she weaves all of this together to understand her anxiety and ultimately set out on a journey.
This is the prose debut of a poet, on the border between memoir, essay, and poetry.
