  1. Dangerous Heat Builds Through Next Week

If you’re planning a trip to Alabama’s beaches, the latest Gulf Shores and Orange Beach weather forecast call for plenty of sunshine, increasing heat, and only a slight chance of an isolated afternoon shower through the weekend. While beach conditions will gradually improve after Friday’s elevated rip current risk, dangerous heat will become the primary concern through next week.

Although surf conditions are slowly improving, powerful currents can still pull even experienced swimmers away from shore. Before heading into the Gulf, always check the beach warning flags and follow the guidance of local beach safety officials.

Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Weekend Forecast

Friday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 77 degrees.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 93 degrees. Humidity will make it feel much hotter, with heat index values climbing as high as 106 degrees during the afternoon. Northwest winds around 5 to 10 mph will become southwest later in the day.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a low near 78 degrees.

Sunday brings another mostly sunny day with a high around 93 degrees. West winds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, will provide a breeze along the beach, but it won’t offer much relief from the heat.

    Dangerous Heat Builds Next Week

The Orange Beach weather forecast and Gulf Shores forecast both show temperatures remaining in the mid-90s Monday through Wednesday. Combined with Gulf Coast humidity, it will feel like 105 to 112 degrees, and some coastal locations could briefly experience heat index values approaching 115 degrees.

Because of the dangerous heat, Heat Advisories or Excessive Heat Warnings may be issued early next week. Overnight temperatures will stay near 79 degrees, offering little relief after sunset.

Anyone spending time outdoors should drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the afternoon.

    Rain Chances Stay Low

The beach forecast remains mostly dry through Wednesday. A stray afternoon shower or thunderstorm is possible this weekend as the sea breeze moves inland, but rain coverage will be very limited.

A better chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms returns Thursday as another weather system approaches the Southeast.

Gulf Shores Beach Conditions & Marine Forecast

Overall, Gulf Shores beach conditions continue to improve heading into the weekend. Boaters can expect light winds, relatively calm seas, and favorable conditions through Sunday. Winds become a bit stronger from the west early next week, but widespread hazardous marine conditions are not expected outside of isolated afternoon thunderstorms.

    Beach Safety Tips

Whether you’re visiting Gulf Shores or Orange Beach, be sure to:

    • Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks from the sun.
    • Apply sunscreen regularly and wear lightweight clothing.
    • Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon.
    • Check the daily beach warning flags before entering the Gulf.
    • If caught in a rip current, remain calm, float, and swim parallel to shore until you’re free of the current.

Whether you’re planning a beach day, boating trip, or vacation along Alabama’s coast, the biggest weather concerns will be dangerous heat and staying aware of beach conditions.

  2. Rip Currents and Hurricanes

When it comes to the beach, looks can be deceiving. That calm-looking water to the side of big crashing waves may actually be a rip current that carries water back out to the ocean. Rip currents are a result of conservation of mass; just as waves carry water to the shore, something has to carry that incoming water back out to the ocean. Depending on the local topography, that outflow could be below the water surface, creating an undertow, or along the surface, as a rip current.

Even when far offshore, hurricanes can trigger unexpected and strong rip currents, largely because they create bigger waves that travel shoreward. Those waves can also change the depth and layout of the underwater shoreline, potentially exacerbating rip currents.

  5. Rip Current Awareness Week concludes today: Rip Current Reminders.

🏊‍♂️Good swimmer: Swim parallel to shore til free of pull of the current
🤷Not a skilled swimmer: Flip on your back & float
