  1. the above mentioned book Bewilderment by #RichardPowers is a GEM.

[i don't read [cis] male authors but bc of a very good reason - and for Powers the many reasons are be-au-ti-ful writing prose, excellent techie stuff, all the best and current nature as well as climate blisses - AND horrors!], marvelous info bits about astro and space science AND [!] genious capture of [male] emotions.]

Also very much loved his book before this one, The Overstory.

  6. After I read The Overstory and Bewilderment I decided to read everything by #RichardPowers. I’m trying to spread them out amongst other stuff as treats. I’m on The Time of Our Singing now. I’ve a long way to go but I’m always amazed at how much knowledge/research goes into these books. How does this guy know so much about so many subjects?? Does he have a team to help? I’m distracted by my awe for him.

  10. I hate to say it, but I'm about to give up on #RichardPowers "Gold bug variations". I absolutely loved #Overstory and #Bewildered, and mostly adored #Playground.

But this one is dense. Lots of complex sentences and non-stop clever metaphors. I find myself re-reading pages several times to understand them. The story and characters feel secondary to the allusions and florid description.

10% in, and that may be my limit :/

  15. "Before the earth,

    before the moon,
    before the stars,

    before the sun,

    before the sky,
    even before the sea,

there was only time and Ta'aroa.

Ta'aroa made Ta'aroa. Then he made an egg that could house him."

Started this morning. Looking forward to spending some time with this one.

  20. Richard Powers: Playground

Vahva suositus!
