A Eurasian Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) at RSPB Middleton Lakes last month, near to where I watched a singing Sedge #Warbler earlier the same day. Both birds, uncharacteristically, perched where I could photograph them, although this one did keep his head behind that reed stem most of the time!

Act 1: The #ReedWarbler
I first encountered a reed warbler at a pond close to my workplace. Its edge is complete overgrown with high reeds, and it is also surrounded with tree, so there is literally no visibility.

But there was a singing bird singing like nothing I had heard before. And struck very deep notes and creaking sounds. But it would also go to a higher falsetto.

I took a recording and analyzed it, it turned out I had listened to the Great Reed Warbler. What a lunch break find! 2/n

Der #Teichrohrsänger ist ein relativ scheuer Vogel. Er flüchtet zwar nicht vor dir, versteckt sich aber tief im Schilf. Hier ist ein Pärchen ausnahmsweise laut rufend durch eine Weide gehüpft, so dass ab und zu ein Auge sichtbar war.
