#DaphneDuMaurier is a fantastic writer.

It's not often you read a #ShortStory and really enjoy it and have it stuck in your head.

The Blue Lenses is just brilliant. It is silly yet touches on something more troubling. Yet, Maurier never really says things explicitly -- a bit like #Rebecca -- and the reader has to piece things together.

Her works can be quite cryptic and they leave you with questions.

The ending of Blue Lenses is brilliant. I wasn't quite sure where it was heading, but the ending doesn't disappoint.

But the ending is cryptic and it's one of those stories you have to re-read to pick up on the nuances you might have missed.

But I love how she uses an absurd occurrence to touch upon underlying themes. How the something strange actually turns out to be the subconsciousness at work, and turns out to be revealing more of reality.

It's very good.

"More live facial recognition (#LFR) vans will be rolled out across seven police forces in England to locate suspects for crimes including sexual offences, violent assaults and homicides, the Home Office has announced.

"The forces will get access to 10 new vans equipped with cameras, which scan the faces of people walking past and check them against a list of wanted people.

"The government says the technology has been used in London to make 580 arrests in 12 months, including 52 registered sex offenders who breached their conditions.

"However, campaign group #BigBrotherWatch said the 'significant expansion of the #SurveillanceState' was 'alarming'.

"Live facial recognition was first used in #England and #Wales in 2017 during the Uefa Champions League final football match in Cardiff.

"Since then its use has largely been confined to #SouthWales, #London and #Essex including at a Beyoncé concert to scan for paedophiles and terrorists [like elderly Palestine Action activists!]

"The government is now funding 10 vans equipped with LFR to be shared between seven forces, approximately doubling the number of vehicles.

"The seven forces are Greater #Manchester, #WestYorkshire, #Bedfordshire, #Surrey, #Sussex, #ThamesValley and #Hampshire.

"The technology identifies people by taking measurements of facial features including the distance between the eyes and the length of the jawline and then comparing the data to to an existing watchlist.

"Each van will be staffed with a trained officer who checks the matches identified by the technology.

"Simultaneously, the government is holding a consultation on what safeguards are needed to "ensure transparency and public confidence", ahead of drawing up a new legal framework.

"Big Brother Watch is bringing a legal challenge against the #MetPolice's use of the technology, alongside #ShaunThompson, who was wrongly identified by an LFR camera.

#Rebecca Vincent, interim director of Big Brother Watch, said: 'Police have interpreted the absence of any legislative basis authorising the use of this intrusive technology as carte blanche to continue to roll it out unfettered, despite the fact that a crucial judicial review on the matter is pending.

In contrast to Paul Weiss, instead of lying down, they chose to fight.

Both are doing media tours to discuss the work they are doing against oligarchy.

Bedoya went to Colorado and spoke before that giant crowd. When was the last time a commissioner of a small Federal antitrust agency did that?

Sanders, who is attracting a lot of people who did not support him in 2016 and 2020 to his rallies, is building a different kind of politics.

He has refined his argument to focus on oligarchy, the group of superrich who are running the United States.

And a newer generation of politicians are recognizing in that argument something that makes sense.

There are conflicting messages, notably the New York Times’ Ezra Klein and The Atlantic’s Derek Thompson launching a campaign around the concept of Abundance, which I’ll touch on soon.
But the possibility of sharpening policy tools to bring our oligarchs back into our democracy and match them with a political coalition is there.

And in that sense, I am thankful to Paul Weiss and Brad Karp.

Bedoya went to Colorado and spoke before that giant crowd. When was the last time a commissioner of a small Federal antitrust agency did that?

Sanders, who is attracting a lot of people who did not support him in 2016 and 2020 to his rallies, is building a different kind of politics.

He has refined his argument to focus on oligarchy, the group of superrich who are running the United States.

And a newer generation of politicians are recognizing in that argument something that makes sense.

There are conflicting messages, notably the New York Times’ Ezra Klein and The Atlantic’s Derek Thompson launching a campaign around the concept of Abundance, which I’ll touch on soon.
But the possibility of sharpening policy tools to bring our oligarchs back into our democracy and match them with a political coalition is there.

And in that sense, I am thankful to Paul Weiss and Brad Karp.

And they did so at the only moment in the last two decades during which normal Democrats are looking for someone to blame for their own party’s fecklessness.

And who better to blame than the would-be Kamala Harris staff, a pack of Google and private equity defense lawyers - and Chuck Schumer’s brother - who, when the chips were down, bent the knee to Trump?
