PSA: Fuck #wilkinson #shavingsoap !! My face feels like someone used it as pincushion! Never had such a bad shave in my life. Not even when I first started out with cartridge #razors and foam from a can. I'm using a #safetyrazor and I'd say my technique isn't half bad. That soap is killing my face. But I guess that's what you get when you buy from a brand that would rather sell you their expensive canned #shaving gell.

Well, after 8 years of service my trusty Edwin Jagger DE89 #SafetyRazor finally kicked it (threads in the handle stripped). Picked up a RazoRock Game Changer .68-P with the bulldog handle and first impressions, it's a great replacement (paired with Astra Platinums)! Similar mild-ish shave, good weight, great grip, solid stainless steel that should last longer than chrome plate, great price ($80 vs $50 for the DE89), and made in #Canada too! #shaving #razors #buyitforlife

Surprised to find that yes, running your straight edge razor the opposite way on denim indeed sharpens/straightens the edge so you can use the razor more. 🤯 (it's apparently called "stropping")
Thus, going from "electric razor that doesn't really work for me" => "too many zillion disposable plastic razors that suck and are expensive and non-recyclable" => safety razor (one new razor blade a week) => safety razor blade (? per year?).

(yes, yes, not shaving at all would save all the razors, but it would be all awful stubble, all the time, no beard)

I've never used a straight razor, though I admire them (and my grandfather used them). I've tried single-edge safety razors but I settled on double-edge safety razors (of modern manufacture, mostly) as best for me. I particularly favor slant razors.

Both "invented" by Gillette: Which Do You Believe To Be The Best?

Both these razors are the very best in their class.

The one on the left is a solid stainless steel artisan safety razor by Rex Supply Co using standard double-edged blades. The one on the right is made from plastic composite materials by Gillette and uses Gillette's proprietary multi-blade cartridge blades.
