Op 20 augustus 1983 werd de 15-jarige Kerwin Lucas Duinmeijer in de Damstraat in Amsterdam vermoord. Nederland, dat altijd werd gezien als tolerant, verloor die avond zijn onschuld.
Inmiddels, 43 jaar later, is de intolerantie van ons land tegenover mensen met een migratieachtergrond, mensen van kleur, mensen met een andere seksuele geaardheid en mensen met een andere geloofs- overtuiging niet afgenomen. Extreemrechts wordt steeds groter en gebruikt vluchtelingen en mensen met een migratieachtergrond als zondebok voor problemen als woningnood en weinig arbeidskansen. Middenpartijen, journalisten, mediamakers en BN'ers helpen deze haat te normaliseren door dezelfde retoriek over te nemen en het een podium te geven.
Woorden slaan daardoor steeds vaker om in daden: er worden aanslagen gepleegd zoals op het AZC in Loosdrecht en racistische leuzen geuit tegen de Zwarte Nederlands elftal-spelers Justin Kluivert, Quinten Timber en Crysencio Summerville. Dezelfde racistische uitingen die ruim 40 jaar geleden tegen Kerwin werden geroepen voordat hij werd vermoord. Toen zeiden we al: “Genoeg is genoeg! Er is in al die jaren niks veranderd.
Zo gebruikt de politie buitensporig geweld tegen minderjarige jongeren in de Schilderswijk na een overwinning van het Marokkaanse elftal. Racisme en discriminatie raakt ook Stanley (16) uit Osdorp, Aisha (17) uit de Vogelbuurt en Mohammed (16) uit Holendrecht, die bij hun sollicitatie ongelijk behandeld worden vanwege hun naam, afkomst of geaardheid. En dat terwijl onze premier zelf openlijk homoseksueel is, onze helden op het WK voor een groot deel een migratieachtergrond hebben, en onze ziekenhuizen, scholen en supermarkten draaien op de inzet van mensen met precies diezelfde achtergrond als Stanley, Aisha en Mohammed.
Extreemrechts heeft een duidelijke agenda: een samenleving waarin mensen worden veroordeeld en verdeeld op huidskleur, afkomst, religie, gender, geaardheid of beperking waardoor fascisme, racisme en discriminatie worden genormaliseerd. De geschiedenis heeft ons geleerd dat dit uiteindelijk iedereen raakt die afwijkt van ‘de norm’. Onze generatie moet strijden voor een toekomst waarin vrijheid, gelijk- waardigheid en menselijkheid centraal staan. Een toekomst waarin we met elkaar in gesprek gaan en in verbinding blijven.
Kom daarom met ons in actie tegen racisme, fascisme, geweld, en zet jezelf en anderen goed.

"More than 100 people have been arrested in Newcastle for allegedly defying directions by New South Wales Police during an anti-#FossilFuel protest at the world's largest coal port.
"Dozens of protesters on kayaks and small water craft paddled out on Newcastle Harbour on Sunday morning.
"Standing on the beach, a police officer using a loud speaker told those gathered on the sand they could be breaking the law if they entered the shipping channel.
"NSW Police said just after 10am on Sunday a large group of people entered the shipping channel and interfered with the movement of vessels.
"As a result police said 138 people had been arrested after refusing to comply with a direction to move away from the channel.
Thousands of people have gathered in Newcastle over the past few days for what activism group Rising Tide has called 'the people's blockade' of the world's largest coal port.
"The police operation on the harbour is continuing and police aren't ruling out further arrests.
"'NSW Police will adopt a zero-tolerance approach to actions which threaten public safety and the safe passage of vessels,' a statement said.
"Rising Tide has declared the protest action successful, claiming the paddle-out forced a bulk carrier to turn around and not enter the port."
