Rising Tide's foundation training over the weekend was fab: interactive, inclusive, and informative. Feel i left with a deeper understanding of Rising Tide's 10 principles and how they apply to actions.
Also the camaraderie was amazing! The relief of being with people who share similar views and goals is such a relief (even for someone like myself who lives in a relatively left voting city). #RisingTideAus #RisingTide #environment
Had a great morning out learning to kayak. Muscles very sore now and managed to rub a sore spot on my thumb. So glad i had a go. #RisingTideAus #NewcastleNSW #NewcastleAU
The climate crisis is here and the science is clear.
Join hundreds of people from across the country as we come together in the last sitting week of Parliament in Canberra to demand Prime Minister Albanese answer the question:
When will your Government stop approving climate destroying coal and gas mines?!

Arrests made as #RisingTide #ClimateChange protesters take to #Newcastle Harbour over #coal exports
"'I strongly support the peaceful protest that's planned here. Consider what the scientists are telling us, look at the agreements we're trying to forge internationally and understand that this is one of the most defining issues of our time." -- #PeterGarrett, #MidnightOil frontman and former environment minister.

Port of #NewcastleAustralia shipping paused as more than 100 #AntiCoal #protesters arrested

"More than 100 people have been arrested in Newcastle for allegedly defying directions by New South Wales Police during an anti-#FossilFuel protest at the world's largest coal port.
"Dozens of protesters on kayaks and small water craft paddled out on Newcastle Harbour on Sunday morning.
"Standing on the beach, a police officer using a loud speaker told those gathered on the sand they could be breaking the law if they entered the shipping channel.
"NSW Police said just after 10am on Sunday a large group of people entered the shipping channel and interfered with the movement of vessels.
"As a result police said 138 people had been arrested after refusing to comply with a direction to move away from the channel.
Thousands of people have gathered in Newcastle over the past few days for what activism group Rising Tide has called 'the people's blockade' of the world's largest coal port.
"The police operation on the harbour is continuing and police aren't ruling out further arrests.
"'NSW Police will adopt a zero-tolerance approach to actions which threaten public safety and the safe passage of vessels,' a statement said.
"Rising Tide has declared the protest action successful, claiming the paddle-out forced a bulk carrier to turn around and not enter the port."

We turned back a coal ship!
This is what people power sounds like: breaking through the police line to the shipping channel
At the phenomenal #PeoplesBlockade of the world's largest coal port in Newcastle today with #RisingTideAus
The energy and determination of the crowds here is amazing. Thousands have gathered to demand a safer climate future with #NoMoreCoal and #NoMoreGas
Wouldn't it be fantastic if - for a change - instead of trying to shut down and silence protest, our governments actually listened to the will and wisdom of the people?
A better future free from polluting fossil fuels is possible 💪🌏
Looked like something might be about to happen over at Horseshoe Beach. As i was walking towards the camp, a couple of what looked to be police launches were moving in that direction. Heading off, saw some of the watercraft and protesters moving in that direction. Admire them so much. Wishing all luck! Will have to watch the news later! #RisingTideAus #RisingTide #NewcastleNSW
Visited the Rising Tide protest camp near Newcastle Harbour around lunchtime. The encampment looked neat and well organised and the people i spoke to were lovely and helpful (was trying to locate a friend there). #RisingTide #RisingTideAus #NewcastleNSW
Apparently there have been 59 arrests so far.

This just posted on Rising Tide's Facebook page:
"Over 100 people are risking arrest by continuing to blockade the coal port. Police have told protestors that they’re breaching section 15A of the Maritime Safety Act by remaining in the shipping channel."

Super energising first day at the #RisingTideAus #PeoplesBlockade of the Newcastle coal port! Today has been planning and briefing and a beautiful sharing of space and coming together. Tomorrow we get on the water to put our bodies in front of those boats and the destruction they carry.
