    My dad— retired petroleum engineer in Houston— called me in the middle of writing to check in wrt the Florida flooding.

    IS it #ClimateChange? It’s what all his friends are talking about.

    The Bad News: "and we would now ask you to submit an amendment in order to adapt your project scope and budget."

    The Ugly News: "If you do not
    reply to our requests or repeatedly miss deadlines, we will consider that you are no longer interested
    in our grant (and reject your proposal)."

    Who’d have thought that coaching your PhD student who's writing her very first grant application means a combination of speed-skating coach shouting lap times *AND* marathon coach riding a bike to show up at various points along the course *AND* cheerleading all the way?
