Here is a very poor video of a Red-Shouldered Hawk policing the bird feeding area. If you look at the concrete block structure in the center of the image you will see he is sitting on top of the sloping roof.

Here's the Project Feeder Watch data for week number 22 for this season. We had 21 species and 83 individuals this week. Numbers are dropping as the birds spread out to start families. Weather's improving but the Juncos are still around but we're missing the Carolina Wren and the Northern Mockingbird. Robins are coming to get crumbs off the ground under the suet feeders. Chipmunks are chipping and the Hawk is still looming.

Here's my Project Feeder Watch counts for week number 21 of this season. We had 21 species and 103 individuals. The Carolina Wren was missing this week, but a Goldfinch finally showed up. Also, I'm surprised there are still so many Juncos around. This prolonged cold spring is holding them, I guess. I heard some Hawks around, but no sightings. Chipmunks provide comic relief.

Just entered data for week num. 20 of this season's Project Feeder Watch. We had 23 species & 102 individuals this week. No sign of any hawk activity but there were LOTS of Grackles causing trouble for everyone .Juncos are decreasing - it's time for them to be moving on. A first for me was the sighting of an American Tree Sparrow feeding on the ground under a feeder. Now there's at least 3 chipmunks hauling away seed as fast as it's spilled.

Project Feeder Watch data for week number 19. We recorded 22 species & 129 individuals this week. A lot of summer birds are back. We had a TON of Grackles & Red-Winged Blackbirds show up on the same day that all the snow melted away. They devoured 3 blocks of suet in about 10 minutes. Juncos are still here but I expect they will be leaving soon.We also had a couple of Robins collecting fallen suet crumbs on the ground under the feeders.

We're now into week number 18 for this season's Project Feeder Watch. This week's data has just been entered. We had 20 species and 99 individuals this week. The weather has been easing a bit, so some of the snow is beginning to melt and open ground is appearing at last. It was nice to see some Red-Winged Blackbirds feeding this week. Their "twill-a-reee" from the trees is certainly a sound of warmer days ahead!

All these snowstorms have got me a little late on posting the data for week number 17 of Project Feeder Watch. Here we are: 18 species and 108 individuals this week. Lots and lots of snow cover and it's still snowing as I write this. Red-Shouldered Hawk got a Dark-Eyed Junco at the feeders this week. Also we've picked up a second Northern Mockingbird. Gunna be a late spring!

Here is my Project Feeder Watch data for week number 16 of this season. We had 18 species and 96 individuals counted this week. These numbers are down a bit from our usual numbers, but it's been a tough winter so far. Starlings and Juncos continue to dominate the numbers, but my favorite is still the Carolina Wren. Hoping we get a thaw soon!

Here's this week's data for Project Feeder Watch week number 15. Severe winter weather continues with VERY cold temps, high winds and lots of snow cover. We had 19 species and 116 individuals this week. Favorite sighting of the week was a very scruffy-looking Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker that stopped by several times. As always the Carolina Wrens continue to amaze me that they can survive this climate and still look feisty!

Here's my Project Feeder Watch data for week number 14 of this season's counts. We had 20 species and 102 individuals tallied this week. Numbers are down a little, probably due to the severe weather we've been having. Record cold temps and lots of snow cover this week. Still lots of Juncos and Starlings coming in. Not very many Mourning Doves and House Finches this time. Had to clear the snow away from the feeder area.

Here is my Project Feeder Watch data for week number 13 for the current season. We had 21 species and 109 individuals recorded this week. Lots of snow on the ground now and I've had to clear the ground under the feeders to keep everyone happy. Not much unusual to report except that the Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker has come back to see us. Otherwise just lots of Juncos and Starlings crowding the feeders.

Data for my Project Feeder Watch site, week number 12 for this season. We had 19 species and 118 individuals this week. Weather continues very cold with lots of snow cover. A Cooper's Hawk predated a Junco this week. One of the Carolina Wrens looks like they had a misadventure as it's tail feathers are missing. Still seems to be getting around ok. Having to melt the ice in the bird water dishes twice a day right now.

Count info for my Project Feeder Watch site has now been entered for week number 11 of this season's count. We again had 19 species seen, totaling 127 individuals this week. Not much new to report. The Juncos & Starlings make up about 30% of the observations. No hawk depredations noted this week, but the Cooper's Hawk is back. We're just down to 1 Squirrel raiding the feeders. It's been warmer lately so the snow cover is gone for now.

Life keeps getting in the way, but here is my Project Feeder Watch data for count week number 10. We had 19 species and 108 individuals recorded this week. One female cardinal was predated by the Red Shouldered Hawk this week. One lonely Mockingbird still around. Of course the Juncos abound. Still snow cover but weather a little warmer. Sill one squirrel and a rabbit showing up.

Here's my Project Feeder Watch data for count week number 9. We had 20 species and 116 individuals visit this week. Things of note: did not see any raptors this week and the heavy snow brought us a Northern Mockingbird, first one I've seen in months. Only one squirrel this week. It's been a tough week for the birds with the heavy snow, high winds and now freezing rain. And yet they still show up. CU all next year!

Astonished to see our first shrike ever at the feeder today - probably after the chickadees. Checked the ranges and either of them is far out of their range here in the Outaouais. Didn't stick around long enough for a specific ID. Completely chuffed.

Here is the ProjectFeederWatch data for my site for week number 8. We saw 18 species totaling 123 individuals this week. No exciting newcomers, just the reliable regulars. Lots of cold weather meant lots of toting warm water to unfreeze the water rays this week.

Here is this week's Project Feeder Watch data. It's now week Seven of the count. We had 19 species and 127 individuals this week. The Red Shouldered Hawk is still around but everyone seems to be avoiding it pretty well, so far. Chipmunks have finally all gone to ground, but squirrels still coming. Also one lonely grackle still around. Otherwise it's just the regulars. First count of the season with snow cover, also.

Just finished entering totals for Project Feeder Watch week number 6. We had 18 species this week and 132 individuals. Winter is closing in fast and it's a chore to keep the water trays unfrozen. My favorite visitor is always the Carolina Wren. It's amazing how something so small can have such a big attitude. Attached is a screen shot of the count totals for the week.

I'm not good at video, but here's my family of birds coming in for the afternoon feed on a cold, wet day. Temp is ONLY JUST above freezing and it's raining at this point. Most of the birds seen here are house sparrows and house finches, but a few other regulars are also coming in.

https://data.feederwatch.org/pfw/count/summary?id=S285996850We had 19 species and 124 individuals this week, including a rare sighting of a Northern Flicker. The Red-Winged Blackbirds have gone, but the Grackles are back in lower numbers. The Red Shouldered Hawk is still hanging around making everyone nervous. Still one chipmunk stocking up on seed.

We saw 22 species and 141 individuals this week. Had a nice visit from a flock of 19 Red-Winged Blackbirds. Junco numbers are climbing, too. The Red Shouldered Hawk that haunts the feeders doesn't seem to bother the song birds too much. They have plenty of cover to dive into when he comes by. Still a couple of chipmunks gathering seed, too.

We had 20 species & 106 individuals this week. Chipmunks & squirrels active all over the place. A Red Shouldered Hawk had everyone nervous for a while, but it left empty-handed after a while.
The apple tree pruning is well along now but the biggest of the trees is still yet to do. Big job.

Do you fine folks know about Cornell's #FeederWatch program? Essentially you sign up, (or go to a participating location) to identify and count birds at/near feeders.
We are not a #ProjectFeederWatch station, but there is a nice feeder outside my window that I get to watch while WFH all day.

Cornell's #ProjectFeederWatch starts again in November. 🤩
If you are interested in #birding or supporting #FeederWatch and don't know where to begin, I'd recommend taking this self-paced course offered in partnership with Cornell.
60+ birds for $59.99! That's less than $1/bird!

Looking at some of the photos I took while @Jillianmarisa and I were volunteering for Cornell's #ProjectFeederWatch this past Saturday.
Pretty sure we miscounted this guy as a house finch. Pretty sure he's a purple finch. It's that tail notch and the color in the wing that has me sold. OOPS.

Today @Jillianmarisa and I spent a few hours #volunteering at our local #conservation area doing bird counts for #ProjectFeederWatch. Identifying these two drove me nuts.
We eventually figured out they were a pair of female #Goldfinches. Guess I’m just used to the more showy boys.
