  1. @Unixbigot I know (knew) nothing about Sydney/Melbourne rivalry but I LOL'd at the self-evident entailment.

  6. Been thinking recently about how having a just transition to combat the climate crisis doesn't have to (necessarily) involve tearing down old power structures. I think there's a bit in The Man In The High Castle (the book) where there's a bit of interplay between the "real" Nazified timeline (ours, obviously) and an alternative reality in which the Nazis were comprehensively defeated. I'm thinking of something similar needs to happen in our timeline. We need sideways movement, I think.

We can certainly imagine a better timeline, and if we can elucidate that clearly, maybe we'd be better able to "manifest" it. Just by imagining this sort of parallel world (economy), and sharing it among ourselves, it gives us licence to advocate for it. Sure, there'd still be the same sort of anti-science, anti-life opposition to it, but those people would be arguing against a counterfactual. It would make them look even more stupid than they currently appear.

  9. Hear me out... My name is Earl, but with a Terminator twist. Instead of tracking down everyone in your past who you have wronged, you (I'm guessing Skynet in this scenario, kind of like a time-travelling Rothko's Basilisk) remember all the harboured grudges and travel around time ... but instead of killing them, you just give them desserts. (that's the (cinnamon) twist!)
