Z ciekawszych rzeczy w lipcowym wydaniu Z Biegiem Szyn:

In international connections, aside of the government's… optimistic vision regarding future improvements on the Czech side (https://mastodon.com.pl/@HaTetsu/116862093542138478), the Baltic Express is doing well and Poland would like the Czechs to add a fifth early/late pair between Prague and Wrocław: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/baltic-express-sukcesem-frekwencyjnym-bedzie-kolejna-para-kursow--153461.html

A slightly outdated news drop before I continue my thread…
Although the first new Pesa Gama 3 bi-mode locomotive is to be delivered to PKP Intercity this autumn, the type won't see revenue service in 2027 - PKPIC is intending to stick to its guns and take it through a series of test drives first, arguing that they cannot afford teething problems of an all-new construction causing disruption for passengers even if it means things fall behind schedule further: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/pkp-intercity-nie-planuje-nowych-gam-do-rozkladu-jazdy-na-2027-r-153430.html

The vice-minister for railways Malepszak is promising no base price hikes on IC tickets for the foreseeable future - says ridership is increasing sufficiently to keep them at the same level. The current pricing technically dates back to 2015, but several promotional offers have been abandoned or tightened in the intervening years before a failed attempt at increasing prices in 2023.
There's no word on what may happen with any commercialized connections, as PKPIC has been obtaining open access permits on many IC routes lately, however: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/malepszak-pasazerowie-akceptuja-ceny-biletow-153415.html

So, putting extreme heat and Chat Control necromancy aside, here's an update on Rynek Kolejowy stuff, 'cause there's still more developments in Poland's railways.
Up first, PKP Intercity has made a final decision regarding carriages with tired wheelsets after a crack on 26 April (mentioned by me in https://mastodon.com.pl/@HaTetsu/116583561860056000) resulted in emergency speed restrictions and constant delays in many parts of the country - the good news is that only one type of bogie, used on carriages originally rated for 140 km/h and only later raised to 160 during overhauls, is affected. The bad news is that coaches using it account for about 41% of PKPIC's currently operational standalone carriage fleet, and they will be permanently limited to 150 km/h. There was no time to get the summer timetable corrected, so delays related to this will continue until the next timetable change at the beginning of September.
The current leadership of the company wasted no time pointing out that it was them who made the decision to include full bogie replacements in carriage overhaul programs from 2024, but I'm not sure how much credit they should get for that in particular: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/pkp-intercity-ponad-600-wagonow-z-kolami-obreczowymi-na-stale-zwolni-153385.html

At the same time, deliveries of the delayed Pesa Gama 3 bi-mode diesel and electric locos for PKP Intercity are now slated to start this autumn - will 2027 mark a turning point in services on unelectrified lines?: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/wiemy-kiedy-pesa-dostarczy-pierwsza-nowa-game-do-pkp-intercity-153279.html

And last but not least for now, the Ministry of Infrastructure has prepared a traffic concept for long-distance trains on the Podłęże-Piekiełko line that will bring fast tunnel connections to the southern parts of Lesser Poland.
There are to be four lines, each running with a frequency of 4 hours - with two lines to Nowy Sącz and two lines to Zakopane, they can probably be expected to alternate for 2 hour Takts if possible:
- Krynica/Budapest-Muszyna-Nowy Sącz-Kraków-Warszawa (unclear how the service to Budapest will be organized yet)
- Nowy Sącz-Kraków-Poznań-Szczecin/Gorzów (not splitting, some trains will go to Szczecin, others to Gorzów)
- Zakopane-Rabka-Kraków-Kielce-Warszawa-Gdańsk-Gdynia-Słupsk
- Zakopane-Rabka-Kraków-Łódź-Bydgoszcz-GdyniaFor Krynica, this means a similar level of service as today, while Zakopane will probably have more services by EIC commercial train like it does today - hence the final shape of service in that direction remains to be seen (as does that of regional routes).
InterCity trains will be withdrawn from Skawina-Chabówka Stadion and Stróże-Nowy Sącz - those will be left entirely to the voivodeship to serve (a slightly expanded 4h service will run Kraków-Tarnów-Biecz-Jasło-Krosno-Zagórz):

We also now know that the SD85/DM90-run IC connections between Poznań and Gorzów Wielkopolski have proven so popular, 3 more pairs will be added to the existing 5, with the aim to run in 2 hour Takt. This is attributed to them being ~25% faster than the car and providing reasonable connection to onward trains in the direction of Warsaw: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/sukces-pociagow-pkp-intercity-gorzow--poznan-bedzie-ich-wiecej-153232.html

In the #PKPIC department, the national train operator has declared they will bid for more DB carriages - but decided not to try to get their hands on a batch of Austrian double-decker sleeper cars, saying it's in significantly worse condition than the ones purchased by Slovak works to be refurbished and sold on to ZSSK: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/pkp-intercity-zlozy-oferty-na-uzywane-wagonu-z-niemiec-austriackie-nie-153300.html

I wrote the other day about Warmia-Masuria's tender woes, and one of the things they're trying to do is start running bi-hourly trains between Ełk and Olecko. Well, it turns out that's not the full extent of reactivation plans there… Two weeks ago, vice-minister for railways Malepszak apparently promised a Suwałki-Olecko-Ełk-Pisz-Olsztyn-Tricity-Szczecin IC pair for #RailwayNewYear.
One pair is not going to reshape Poland's railway map or anything, of course, but this is, to an extent, a breakthrough for what's supposed to become Lithuania's main connection to the rest of Europe: https://dwutygodniksuwalski.pl/nowe-polaczenie-kolejowe-suwalki-szczecin-juz-od-grudnia-pojedzie-przez-gdansk/ -

In other 'open access' news, PKP Intercity has obtained permission to possibly convert another two subsidized IC routes to commercial: Łódź-Warsaw-Gdynia(Tricity) and Kraków-Kielce-Warsaw-Olsztyn
Note that nothing has happened there yet, and the exact intentions behind these moves remain unclear to me: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/kolejne-dwie-trasy-komercyjne-dla-pkp-intercity-153183.html

Not sure if this one merits posting about, honestly, seeing as it's been talked about for a while, but nationally, there's something about PKPIC claiming they'll get to work on getting door release by driver implemented (incessant announcements about not getting off whenever the train stops someplace not at a platform make some sense here as on carriage trains the norm is that the door locks release automatically when the train slows down to a crawl): https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/pkp-intercity-blokada-drzwi--beda-dodatkowe-zabezpieczenia-153039.html

For the last few days, online booking systems of PKP Intercity have been experiencing repeating issues every afternoon. This affects all online booking platforms, but station ticket counters and machines are supposed to be functional. Alternatively, you can try booking in the morning or, in a reservation optional train, buy from the conductor: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/pkp-intercity-ma-problemy-ze-sprzedaza-biletow-przez-internet-152921.html
This comes on the heels of an announcement that roughly an eighth of PKPIC tickets are now sold at ticket desks, but the national carrier is not planning on closing any (more) of them… only shortening opening hours, closing individual windows and, well, if a franchisee pulls out and no one else steps up, there's not much they can do, can they?: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/pkp-intercity-ma-problemy-ze-sprzedaza-biletow-przez-internet-152921.html

In a response to a Diet/Sejm member's formal question, the Ministry of Infrastructure has revealed they are planning to extend the Stańczyk IC train from Gdynia-Olsztyn to Szczecin-Pisz in the 2026/7 timetable. Once more, for English speakers!
Looks like starting this week, #PKPIC has new tariff integrations in the Pomeranian Voivodeship! (No, probably not a joke)
On one hand, all PKP IC single tickets between the Tricity (Gdańsk, Sopot or Gdynia) and any station outside of the Pomeranian Voivodeship are now valid on SKMT and Polregio trains within the borders of the three cities for 75 minutes before the scheduled departure or after the scheduled arrival as shown on the ticket. In the arrival case, you'll be able to request a delay certificate from the PKP IC conductor to start the 75 minutes from your actual arrival time (if your departing train is crazy late, you're kind of screwed, however).
On the other hand, "Taryfa Pomorska" SKMT and Polregio monthly passes are now valid on IC and TLK trains on their route (not commercial EIP).So far, only valid until Railway New Year in December, probably will be extended.

@IngaLovinde @ptrc EIP and EIC are commercial, IC and TLK are subsidized. Although that may change soon, as #PKPIC is looking to *move some of those running between medium cities to commercial* for some reason
