@bookstodon Yesterday I read Winter's Gifts, and today The Masquerades of Spring by Ben Aaronovitch, novellas in the Rivers of London series, though both are set in the US. Very different books, but both enjoyable, though I liked Masquerades best.
I also got Stone & Sky, a full length novel, but I'll probably squeeze something else in first, so I don't overdose on Aaronovitch.
These are always fun reads (or listens, as the case may be). -

Reading some Ben Aaronovitch (#PeterGrant #RiversofLondon) lately, I can't but think about press reports on the causes of the UK riots: What if they were part of Aaronovitch's fiction?
The hidden, true causes would be magic phenomena, disguised as uncoordinated humans acting "like a school of fish". That would be relieving, easier to stomach than the threatening power of Nazis. The Folly would magically save us.
But that's not happening.

Having finished watching the two seasons of Yellowjackets my thought is that whatever is happening involves something like the genii locorum (genius loci) that exist the Ben Aaronovitch's Peter Grant books (series starts with Rivers of London). It particularly feels similar to some bits of his latest: “Winter's Gifts”
The idea dates to Roman religion.
