@johncarlosbaez I haven’t tracked down the source yet but a #PBSEons doco this year said that no terrestrial animal bigger than 25 kg seems to have survived the K-Pg boundary extinction, which is a wild thought if true.
And then there’s the speculative fungal infection-mammalian selection hypothesis, for why mammals instead of reptiles rose to dominance after the Yucatan impact.
It’s difficult to imagine just how colossal and dramatic the ecosystem changes were during and immediately after these mass extinction events.

Today so far: watched a few #PBSEons with Wee Trail, went to a #citypool that cost basically peanuts for us both for as long as we could handle the shrieks of delighted children cherrybombing, and dropped a truckload of hazardous household chemicals at a city drop site for free. Public services make life better. #albuquerque #taxdollars #pbs
