Paul Heaton - Jenius
I've enjoyed Heaton's music since his Housemartins days, and was a particular fan of The Beautiful South. My interest in him has been renewed since he teamed up with Rianne Downey, who I've followed since she was uploading songs to YouTube from her bedroom during lockdown.
I really like this double album with its mix of tenderness, political commentary, and pure unfiltered venom. -

Heute möchte ich an eine Band erinnern, deren erstes Album "London 0 Hull 4" noch immer sehr mag. Die Rede ist von den #Housemartins aus England mit dem großartigen Sänger #PaulHeaton. Today’s listening is ‘The Mighty Several’, the 2024 album by Paul Heaton.
For his new album, Paul Heaton has ended his musical relationship with vocalist Jacqui Abbott, who has been replaced by Rianne Downey and Yvonne Shelton.
Apart from that change, the usual high standards from the ‘Bard of Northern England’ are maintained: great tunes, down-to-earth lyrics and the usual strange absence of the definite article.

Today’s listening is ‘Wisdom, Laughter And Lines’, the 2015 album by Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott.
Paul Heaton is, of course, the Poet Laureate of Northern England (though he does have the odd habit of omitting his articles) and Jacqui Abbott has the perfect singing voice for his words.
A collection of catchy tunes with caustic lyrics, this is a typical example of the fine set of albums that they released together.
Pity their partnership seems to have now ended.
