Judge Christina Mims declared a #mistrial Thurs morning in the 2nd-degree #murder trial for #ChristopherSchurr after the #jury said it was unable to reach a verdict.
The jury began deliberations Mon & told Mims on Tues that they were deadlocked after deliberating for ~10hrs over 2 days. Mims asked them to keep deliberating.
#PatrickLyoya's death, which occurred amid years of tense relations between the city police & #Black residents,drew national attention. Schurr was fired after the shooting.

A White male police ofc wearing bullet-proof vest, w/ handgun, taser, pepper spray, & a baton, saying that "feared for his life" of an UNARMED Black man, that was running away??? So #ChristopherSchurr, shot #PatrickLyoya in the back of the head. Police shooting at someone running away is agst law w/ SCOTUS, Tennessee v. Garner. Also, cops are not judge, jury & executioner. Lyoya shld be alive to face charges in a court. Ofc Schurr always had the upper hand & did NOT fear for his life. -

Police shoot another black man at a Meijer grocery store in Lansing, MI. DeAnthony VanAtten was there to buy food for a cookout with his girlfriend and infant in the car when he was shot several times. Thankfully, he survived. This is in the wake of the police execution of Patrick Lyoya an hour away in Grand Rapids, MI.
