  1. How LA28 aims to stage 'the best Paralympic Games ever'

Just think…if UC had listened to disabled people going back decades now, they’d be ready. If they’d listened to #UCAccessNow going back to 2020, they’d be ready. But instead they spent their time and the public’s money fighting their bare bones legal obligations, much less any equitable accessibility that the Paralympics should be expected to offer to athletes, broadcasters, journalists, and spectators.

The Paralympics can be genuinely exciting and not as inspiration porn for abled people. And ideally, it can leave disabled people in its host cities with far better infrastructure than what they started with. It remains to be seen whether this will happen in LA. The outlook for it is not good, though.

  2. U.S. swimmer Ali Truwit said home support at the Los Angeles Paralympics in 2028 could help the Americans challenge China's long-standing dominance while reshaping public perceptions of disability. japantimes.co.jp/paralympics/2 #paralympics #2028losangeles #paralympics #unitedstates #alitruwit

  3. Following the success of the commonwealth games, which includes para sports, does this raise the case to get rid of the paralympics as an event, and integrate with the olympics so it is one event and includes everyone.

This would mean more coverage, but hopefully that would inspire more people.

  4. How Wheelchair Curling Helped Katlin Riidebach Accept Herself

A lot of the time, the Paralympics coverage will skip right over the internalized ableism so many athletes have. Some Paralympians were born disabled, but probably the majority identified as abled until they had an injury or disease that left permanent effects.

Sport is important for those that enjoy it, but you shouldn't have to be a Paralympian to be able to be surrounded by other disabled people in public.

We have to fight the de facto segregation put in place by systemic ableism. Because a lot of people are disabled and are simply kept out of school, work, and recreation intentionally by abled society.

"Hatz arrived at the “Love Island” villa in Fiji on Tuesday night in a stunning red bikini top and skirt with her long curly hair draped over her shoulders and spoke about her disability. A proud Mexican-American, Hatz was born with a rare birth defect called fibular hemimelia, which means the fibula bone in her right leg never developed. Hatz’s leg below the knee was amputated when she was 10 months old." #Disability #Representation #Paralympics
