Real-world history has a limited number of designs to reference—the most successful ones being the skyhooks used by Sparrowhawk biplanes to dock with the Akron & Macon airships, but they don't retract. Also, TIL Harrier jets had a skyhook system designed for them, to capture and store them on boats & subs! Wild! I think the design probably depended on the Harrier's VTOL capabilities, so that might rule it out for #Panauva, where the tech level precludes jets.

As I continue to design aircraft that exist on #Panauva, I struggle to come up with clever ways to design retractable/stowable skyhooks for making airship landings. It's hard enough to build in landing gear much less hooks that can support/balance the aircraft when docking in midair :mild_panic:

The surface of #Panauva is largely covered by a single, shallow ocean. Flora and fauna are similar to our own, but with perhaps a stronger bend toward aquatic arthropods. The planet is 1.20R⊕, but has similar gravity thanks to a porous, less-dense crust. Petroleum, while present on the planet, is rare and hard to access. Seaweed, however, is unfathomably abundant and is the basis for most combustible fuels (with petroleum added occasionally for extra oomph).

The world of #Panauva primarily uses what we would refer to as “alternative” energy—mostly wind and biodiesel. While these technologies are advanced, the general tech level is still equivalent to our early-20th century, so everything's got a 1930s vibe. I've been working on a model of a giant wind turbine, much like the ones we use today, which are constructed in vast arrays spanning the shallow waters of the planet.
