Oh wow, just looked at the state of #OSC8 (https://github.com/Alhadis/OSC8-Adoption/blob/master/README.md) in #Konsole. After enabling "underlining of hyperlinks" as described at https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/14z5wwh/is_it_possible_to_use_gnu_ls_hyperlink_osc8_with/?rdt=39234 the terminal actually shows an image preview when hovering over a file name! Impressive!
It's a bit hit-and-miss yet (only works for files in the current directory? And not for hidden files?), but the foundations are there.
