I made a simple wiki page on the #IndieWeb site today and then joined the #IRC web chat https://indieweb.org/discuss for a while. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, thank you! 🥰
I'm not that familiar with IRC, but I remember using a green ducky (logo) app on macOS maybe 10 years ago? I am now searching for an IRC client for Mac / Android. Will try WeeChat on Mac Goguma on Android later. What do you use?

Day 3
Well firstly, I messed up some of the tags for Day 2...
my-place.social/display/e59937…
One slightly annoying thing that I forgot on my journey, usb... I could not plug in the phone into the car... it insisted on using some non existing network and would disconnect my network connections.Anyway, Day 3 though... The only thing of note is, I ran into some issue with #peanutbutter ... I don't know exactly what happened... but I had to do a hard reset due to peanutbutter working but not taking inputs. For all the months I've used peanutbutter.. this is a first. I'm chaulking it up to a random fluke.
Speaking on battery... I'm spoiled. As a #pinephone refugee, I was used to paying extra attention to battery usage. Which is why I've always really dug #tui software (it has zero about how neat I find them as well /s). So, as I turned off suspend for my journey, I plumb ass forgor to turn it back on today... and ish was actually fine... like I used only like 50% of the battery with zero suspending. I didn't do a lot but my activities today:
GPS to a place around the corner
Spend most of the day chatting on #weechat #gomuks and mms/sms. I kept tabs on my M$ apps for work via web apps as well as made a few replies. That said, I missed zero calls (fuck scammers and promote #scambaiting ), I had zero sms or mms get stuck in the modem. We'll see how tomorrow goes with suspend on.(hopefully i dont fk this up)

I grew up when IRC was the main protocol to use for chatting about computer stuff in real-time. That was back on #freenode, when lilo used to run things (may he RIP).
Heck, when I worked at a previous company, we had an internal IRC server which we used to communicate internally with one-another.
So you end up understanding the "rules" -- especially around things like using pastebins, as well as knowing what can/cannot be shared easily.
That was ~20 years ago though.
Although IRC is still being used, even for some high-profile projects, I see more people join, and pasting in code snippets, treating them as markkdown code-blocks.
This, of course, won't wash with proper IRC clients such as #weechat -- which I've been a user of since forever.
Am I just getting old, or are people not aware of how to use IRC. I'm sure the young whipersnaper types will likely be ignorant, in which case if that's all it is... meh!
But it never used to be like this... 🙂

@pitermach @erion I mainly use #weechat as an accessible client for #irc and I also use, throught it, #bitlbee to access other protocols.

@flashcode I wanted to thank you a lot for #Weechat !
I've been using ircII since around 1995 and then irssi and only "recently" (few years) switched to irssi for its plugin architecture ( need for #Matrix became mandatory )
Honestly I'm still struggling with proper #Matrix support in #Weechat but having the possibility to write plugins in multiple languages is surely a very useful thing !

You're right, Nicole.
I think, however, there still is a hidden equally important agenda regarding the #TwitterDemolition, which most still fail to see:https://mastodon.social/@HistoPol/111192410060940874
I can't prove it yet, OFC, but time will tell. #Bluesky inheriting most of the remaining #X users would just make so much sense.
Apart from the reasons named, #Elmo is still working towards the #EverythingApp, inspired by the #Chinese #WeeChat.

Going back to Konversation for GUI stuffs. DCC file send/receive is kinda important to me. For everything else, including a lot of Matrix usage, WeeChat is still the Kewlist :p
https://bugs.quassel-irc.org/projects/quassel-irc/wiki/Migrating_from_Monolithic_to_Client+Core - just ain't gonna cut it right now.
I still love HexChat.
Honorable mention goes to Halloy, which I think looks really good, supports tiling, and says it supports DCC Send - I don't mind manipulating config files by hand, and I might check it out with a FlatPak, but if I'm sufficiently impressed it looks like I'll have to build the .deb and SlackBuild myself, ... Well? Somebody's got to! Right?

I really hate the #Mastodon #search function not because it's restricted in what is searchable and what isn't, but because of how impractical it is within those restrictions.
To wit, if I want to find a post of mine containing a specific word or set of words, I'm better off using #grep on my #WeeChat logs than using the search function!
(Why WeeChat logs? Because I have a #Bitlbee bridge set up. I don't actually use it much, but it does come in handy in these circumstances.)

Oh man, I feel your pain.
A could if my most prized Linux collection possessions are the very two first releases of Yggdrasil Plug and Play Linux (LGX) and the first two print editions of "The Linux Bible - the GNU Testament". I was a bit startled to find out what those would actually cost me off i ever wanted to replace them.
The other thing I've had an alert in for about ten years now is a "Memotech" keyboard for the #Timex_Sinclair computer 🖥️ I found one in the past twenty years and they wanted over two hundred dollars for it. In hindsight, I should have jumped on it, but I figured I'd find another one for twenty bucks or so. You live and learn 🙂
You know what? I should boost your inquiry for the Walnut Creek Slackware CDs into the SDF Mastodon server! There's serious #retro_computing folks there, and they maintain a comouter history museum.
I've been a member there for eons. You can't get an account there on our mastodon server unless you're an actual SDF member, but I'll be happy to boost your request there.
Okay #Matrix. In very liberal terms, Matrix is considered by many to be part of the #Fediverse. In more strict interpretations it isn't. Matrix is it's own (and optionally secured by e2ee) communications protocol including chat via text, voice, and video, for one on one and groups - kind of like Slack or discord or IRC but with a very privacy centric focus and built with #FOSS. i.e., it doesn't run on #ActivityPub protocol, but it's very popular with many millions of users.
Here's a good homeserver to join, managed by an #OpenBSD and Matrix developer who's a really nice guy. NOTE: He hosts on his home network so occasionally it goes offline for an hour or so when his ISP's DHCP server changes his IP address.
It's s very performant and well managed server. You can signup at this link:
https://bancino.net/element/#/welcome
There's an easy to read explanation of everything here:
https://joinmatrix.org/guide/#get-started
I would recommend that you start off with the #Element client if you're using #Android, which you can get here at F-Droid:
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/im.vector.app/
There are a lot of guys Matrix clients, like #SchildiChat, #FkuffyChat, a good #WeeChat plugin if you use that for IRC, #Nehko, and others; but Element has ALL features is completely cross-platform - Android, iPhone, #Linux, Mac, Web, and Windows. So it's a good client to start with.
Now, about a third of all Matrix users have accounts on the Matrix Foundation's #Homeserver, and although they recommend you choose from among three thousands of other homeservers, you are welcome to create an account there too.
Stay away from their main Matrix room though - there are several thousands of people in there and can bog your system if your machine had limited resources.
The main site to get Element for any type of computer, phone, or operating system is here:
https://element.io/
I hope that helps!

My current WeeChat setup
Since it's come up in conversation a couple of times in the past week (waves at @snowdusk__ and @yarmo), here's a #screenshot of my current #WeeChat setup (though with different buffers selected than my usual arrangement).
"What am I looking at on the screenshot?"
A buffer list ¹ on the left. Buffers represent the channels, private message streams and status timelines from the various chat media you are connected to.
Side the buffer list are a variety of horizontally and vertically panes, which @weechat called 'windows', each window showing the contents of one
² of the buffers."What buffers are visible in these window panes?"
From top left to bottom right these are:
- #sourcehut's water cooler IRC channel,
- #Twitter timeline, provided through the Twitter #libpurple plugin for #Bitlbee.
- #chanmon, a Perl script to display activity from all currently active (and monitored) buffers.
- #highmon, a Perl script to display highlights from all (highlight-monitored) buffers.
- Lobby #IRC channel, general discussion channel.
- #openMSX on #liberaChat IRC network, for discussions regarding the #MSX emulator I occasionally contribute to.
- #Twitch chat channel for #Kikoskia's stream, provided by setting up a Twitch OAuth token and connecting over their IRC-compatible interface along with twitch python script for stream status details.
- The #WeeChat IRC channel on #libera.
"What's making it work?"
All running in a #tmux terminal multiplexer session, running under #WSL2 on #Windows, in the #WindowsTerminalPreview #terminal client.
(Repost to fix an at-mention...)
Footnotes
¹ though I still use buffers.pl script rather than the built-in buflist plugin because I'm too lazy to migrate my settings to make it look and act in the way I've gotten used to.
² or more, as buffers can be merged, displaying the contents of each of the merged buffers chronologically in the same window pane.Hashtags

@ParadeGrotesque perhaps, though that didn't stop me from chatting on #IRC via a remote #WeeChat over #SSH for years 😅
#HackersKeyboard, or a physical (external) keyboard to recuperate a large portion of screen estate, helps a lot though.
I still miss affordable phones with a built-in physical keyboard...

Okay, the old #EEEPC #netbook has been updated, most #bloatware has been removed and some essential tools have been installed.
I can now at least connect again to my #VPS via #SSH, chat via #WeeChat and do some #coding via #SFTP and #NotepadPlusPlus.
It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing, and it means I can easily grab the netbook and do some lazy #sofaCoding. :)
It's gotten too late now, but at least I made a start on migrating #RecipEasy to #Jekyll.

@Twelve iirc #aspell worked fine for me in the open source chat client #WeeChat.
Looks like #LibreOffice also uses Aspell though? Have you installed the aspell-nb package to get the Norwegian Bokmål dictionary (or aspell-nn for Nynorsk)?
Aspell also works in a standalone mode, so you could try manually checking text files with it to see if the issue is with aspell or with LibreOffice: http://aspell.net/man-html/Spellchecking-Individual-Files.html#Spellchecking-Individual-Files
