I had to put down Robert Tally's "Mismeasure of Orcs" partway through. His thesis (that Tolkien's orcs encode racism and classism) is pursued with genuine dedication, but the evidence keeps coming up short, and what's there is consistently lifted out of context or misread.

I'm not saying Tolkien was without blind spots when it came to race and class. He was a man of his era (or, perhaps more correctly, of even earlier eras).

With the glue-grass dry I used a narrow piece of wood to stamp white straightish lines on the terrain. After drying I applied a crapload of ultra matt varnish, which took like a night to cure.

Now I present the blue team, near-complete. In a couple of days I'll be on vacation so they'll wait for three weeks for the next hobby session. As I type this, the red team's varnish is drying.

it's an old phrase already given as talking point in 2023 by the #orcs #propaganda channels. It was back than connected to pressing the red button and if this results in destruction of the world, it is no problem, as a world without a (strong) russian needs not to exist.

So they are just back in the repetition loop "and daily greets to nuclear one"

I guess they could be called almost done now, apart from some touch-ups and the groundwork. A colleague of mine said the minis are glorious, and offered spare static grass for the lawn. I'll give that stuff a shot, but it'll be two weeks easily, so don't hold your breath 😝

I still have no idea what to do with those spiky tokens. Team colours in recesses and cooper elsewhere, made sense to me. Doesn't mean I am correct, of course 😁

Nails and teeth got done, and the drinking horns are also all now painted. I wasn't sure what these fellas used as their mid-game potables so I made that purple. Plum juice or wine, your choice 😄

Something reminded me of the orkish decorations so I gave a shot at them, thinking the made sense. Blue ones got white triangles, reds got white fake chessboard pattern. Then I found my green wash '98 😄

Also: the meatballmonsters are now red with green eyes.

The sportsorcs and friends are now on round bases, and I started doing some washed to make metals, woods, and leathers less funky. Only the two big trolls got some green skin layering, I am so very slow with this stuff it's ridiculous 😄

I am having lots of fun, I have to emphasize 😎

What's still untouched: almost all mead horns and the four little squig things. Before that I will want to touch up the orcs' skins. Maybe tomorrow, if the weather allows.

Lots of leather started, both black and brown. Then I wanted actual colours and started red-bluing them. Does it make any game sense? Haven't the foggiest, but painting them slowly is fun 😋 For funsies the other big troll has a leather coat and their red team counterpart has leather trousers. That must be the bestest and sportiest of ideas of all time.

I can't wait to start washing them, I'll have you know 😝 And I haven't really started the meatball-beasts!😅
