"The Librem 5 has 3GB of memory."
https://www.theregister.com/2026/05/01/buy_a_foss_fondleslab/
My first laptop had 3GB of *storage*. On a spinning magnetic drive. Can't remember how much RAM, 56MB? 128MB? It ran a Windows 9x OS, the Mate desktop I use now is superficially similar.
Laptop software has got *so* much more bloated and inefficient in that time. Whereas I feel like the limitations of mobile (eg battery life) have forced most people developing for it to work harder for computational efficiency.

People who send unsubscribe requests to the mailing lists they're trying to unsubscribe from piss me off.
People who reply to those unsubscribe requests on the list piss me off more.
People who reply to those unsubscribe requests on the list and give wrong information about how to unsubscribe piss me off most of all.
Correct answer: look in the headers or footer of a message sent to the list for unsubscribe instructions and follow them.

Someone on our street is repeatedly using their "Mission Doorbell," instead of getting out of the car and actually going up to the door. In my fantasies I'm shaking a ripped down pillow through their car window. "Here, enjoy this bunch of goose feathers, since you like honking so much!"

Just read a listing for a senior level role that included:
"Be prepared to sacrifice your work-life balance in exchange for joining an incredible journey and learning a lot along the way."
F2k you, no. You just received $75 million in additional funding. (total of $90 million). You should be prepared to pay for the skills you need and hire enough people for the workload.
Thank $deity I'm not looking for a job right now.

"In all cases, it's very important to bear in mind the roles and personas used in Gateway API. The use cases presented here are deliberately described in terms of Ana, Chihiro, and Ian: they are the ones for whom the API must be usable."
How about you just use the job titles instead of making me learn everyone's back story just to read basic documentation?

Here's what I want to know if anyone's done with Claude Code or any other AI coding assistant / team of agents set-up:
Build a fully functional app, with fully fleshed-out requirements, from top to bottom, with automated test cases with good code coverage that all pass.
Now, carefully review all the code: the app code, the build code, the test harness code, the deployment code, the automated tests.

@hanno Hey, I'm still proudly sporting my hard earned XHTML 1.1 button on my site! elrido.dssr.ch/impressum/ #oldmanyellsatclouds  -
I just realized something.. I used to love learning new things, i could get engrossed in something because it was simple to learn and easy to use.
New "tech stack" doesn't seem to be like that anymore. It feels needlessly complex and invents a new 'standard' every time. It makes me angry and I hate learning, cause its no longer fun.
Learning #borland #TurboPascal #pascal was fun and easy in High School. Moving to #C and #Perl in university was great and easy enough as well. Not that I was any kind of competent in C, but I felt I learned enough that it set me up on a trajectory to learn the finer details and gotchas.
Things like #Python are annoying AF. Oh, your python program only works on 3.11 and not 3.12 or 3.13? That shouldn't be at all. From 2->3 sure I expect changes, 3->4, i would expect great changes as well. But not a minor change!
Dabbling in #Go was fine actually, it didn't anger me much, and #Rustlang / #rust I'm still doing rustlings so I can't say much there.
CLI tools are weird today too. Do they want to be a TUI, a true CLI tool or what?
The #Unix philosophy made learning new tools nice and easy, at least I think so. Do one thing, do it well, make it so your output can be used as the input to another program and great!
Things don't seem to follow that idea anymore.
Or am I just old and biased cause my brain lost its elasticity?? I don't want to think i'm so egocentric as to not rule that out.

Dunkirk MIGHT be a great #film, I wouldn't know. Since it's such an EGREGIOUS PILE OF SHIT due to its audio recording and soundtrack.
I went through the trouble of trying to watch 3-4 different versions to find a better listening experience and it was still an EGREGIOUS PILE OF SHIT on my desktop and TV.
Perhaps it would be a great #movie up there with the 1930 All Quiet on The Western Front; but, it was such an EGREGIOUS PILE OF SHIT that after several watches I couldn't even be bothered to watch it as a silent movie.
Tongue firmly in cheek. 😆

Jeez. Guess I needed to vent a bit. Sorry.

The tragedy of homeless people watching Joe Rogan.
They lost everything and still think they can be on a winning side by hating others.

All smart TVs should come with a "I just want a display" setup option that just makes my TV operate like a TV. #oldmanyellsatclouds

Out of every video, song, and album listed in the #MTV #VMA nominee list, I've heard only 1 song - #Shaboozey - A Bar Song (Tipsy)
Where's #Turnstile?

@merlin I used to maintain gists with all of the commands to install arch across my different machines. LUKS was always the biggest PITA.
Last year I discovered archinstall and I’ll be honest— it’s a godsend.
Also, is it me or is arch just more stable? 10 years ago I was routinely having to usbboot and pacstrap into my install partition to fix stuff. I haven’t needed to do that in maybe three years.

I think I woke up in "get off of my lawn" and "the frisbee is mine now" mode. Time to get outside and reset

I just don't get how companies large enough to have dedicated #IT or #InfoSec staff ever end up with vulnerable services exposed to the Internet in the 2020s. It is just too easy to put your whole infra behind a protective NAT and stand up a VPN to get into it.
Or maybe doing basically that for 30 years warps my perspective...

Can we even call it binge-watching anymore when seasons are down to 10 episodes at most? I miss 26 episode seasons. #OldManYellsAtClouds

Explaining to my teenager that "it's the least I could do" is just an expression for when one performs a small helpful gesture for someone else, not a mantra for every single thing you do in life 🙄

I hate that we've reached a point when most emails are unintelligible viewed in plain text mode. Even the Simple HTML view in Thunderbird renders many emails difficult to read.
Maybe I'm becoming an old curmudgeon, but I've always preferred plain text. There are no hidden trackers lurking behind the words, and it feels somehow more personal without the elaborate formatting. #OldManYellsAtClouds

This might be just a generational thing, but a lot of TV today feels kind of weird and fake to me, and I think I've narrowed it down to the lack of film artifacts.
Digitally adding those back in is one of the things I loved about the Knives Out films.
I just associate film grain with TV, and no matter how much digitally-shot TV I watch, I still can't shake it.
I imagine the next generation of TV viewers will feel this way about 120fps or whatever comes next.

Asked IT for a small VM. 2 vCPUs, 8GB Ram, 30GB disk, windows license. The thing you can spin up in proxmox within 10 seconds and of which 20 easily fit on an old r430.
Of course this needs to now run in azure. Whatever.
After an eternity the request proceeds to the "let's click it together" stage.
125 Eur PER MONTH is what Nutella's crooks want for it. 1,500 Eur per year. Above fully depreciated server would net 30,000 Eur. Annually, until it caught on fire.
WAT!! #OldManYellsAtClouds
