We continue to find pinewood king bolete #mushrooms but they're still exceptionally rare and the aftermath of the nearly 4-month drought through the summer continues. Chance finds in our walks are rare and far between and only sparse secluded spots that we pinpointed the previous years remain loyal.
But the word that they can be found had spread among Narnian people by now so the forests are full of frustrated foragers carrying empty baskets. Thing is, these are symbiotic mushrooms. They still persist underground in same locations they could be found the previous years but they're unlikely to produce fruiting bodies in abundance where their host trees struggled for so long and are still recovering from the stress of the prolonged drought. And that's regardless the spates of rain we had recently. So the chance of success can be evaluated from afar even just by visually examining health of their host trees.
Saprophytic species can be found much easier however as they feed on decaying matter and those include some rather tasty members so just adjusting expectations and maybe expanding the list of sought after species a bit could let them avoid the occasional forager frustration in the future.
