This is the sort of nonsense I never expected to read in Independent Journalism (Crickey News in this case). If you want Australian dollars to be spent solely on producing what those dollars are meant to pay for you’d need to use blockchain (or similar) to account for every ‘thing’ these dollars are expended on. Imagine the bureaucratic nightmare if you will. Businesses (and defence manufacture/procurement is a business) does not work that way. The dollar you spend buying an orange in a grocery store does not pay for ‘That’ orange. You hand your money to the grocer and he does what the bloody well he likes with ‘That’ dollar, in return you get an orange. Period. That’s it. No accountability is expected from the grocer whether it went to his porn site subscription or anything else. Tell me now paying a defence manufacturer for a weapon or its platform needs to be traced solely to the capability you ordered/purchased. Stupid headlines, stupid concern, stupid idea. The journalist in question is advancing his own agenda and demonstrating his own fears and anger. In case you ask: no. I couldn’d get past the following:
