  1. El #NotOpenAccess de hoy, de Elsevier:

"The published journal article cannot be shared publicly, for example on ResearchGate or Academia.edu, to ensure the sustainability of peer-reviewed research in journal publications."

  2. Me: trying to get the APC info of a journal surfing their website.

The publisher: I will forward you to this general website where they will ask you if I am hybrid/open access/suscription... Oh, you don't know? Sorry (not sorry) to have made you spent 30 minutes looking for this.

The publisher is IEEE but any other would be the same.

    #NotOpenAccess

  3. Another #NotOpenAccess, this time from IOP Publishing (Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter)

"Subscription-based journals must insist on the 12-month embargo because immediate availability of peer-reviewed articles in public repositories removes the means of funding the journal’s costs of operation".
    publishingsupport.iopscience.i

    Really???

(unless you are funded by the US Government, then THIS changes EVERYTHING)

  4. "Full access", "free access", "open access"... Entonces, ¿lo puedo poner en mi repositorio, o no?

Otra práctica #notOpenAccess, esta vez de Wiley. Jugar a la confusión les sale muy rentable.

  5. New #notopenaccess practice from IOPPublishing: papers are reviewed online so researchers can not have the "accepted version" or "postprint" themselves to deposit in a repository.

The #openaccess battle is going to be long...

  6. Funny thing: only yesterday while listening to the fan in my laptop spin up on the ad-loaded site electrek.com (ironic!) I wondered to myself, "what's the kWh hit of all this advertising frenzy, at scale?"

Well, one day later up pops an answer.

Sadly because of Yet Another Business Plan this article is #NotOpenAccess but some hints are in the abstract, for those who can take the work on faith alone.

    It's a lot of juice.

  11. Unfortunately, the paper is #NotOpenAccess. For those of you frustrated by #paywalls (same here!), feel free to e-mail me and I’ll help out! #PayWallProblems #OpenAccess #FreeAccess (6/6)

  12. I guess an implication of this might be that increasing melt and hence subglacial disposal will contribute to increased seasonal acceleration?

    Sady, #NotOpenAccess.

  13. More tragic #NotOpenAccess

'Multiple Equilibria in a Coupled Climate–Carbon Model'

"Four stable climate states are possible, from the Snowball Earth, in which ice covers the whole planet, to the Warm state, an ice-free world. The carbon cycle drives the global climate change at an extremely slower pace after sea ice retreats. Sea ice and water vapor, on the other hand, constitute the major contributing factors that accelerate faster climate change."

  14. What's our horizon, and when?

"The 1952 worldwide appearance of Pu, owing to its global synchronicity and repeatability between the cores, is proposed here as a primary marker of the Anthropocene..."

'The Śnieżka peatland as a candidate for the Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series'

    Tragically #NotOpenAccess.

  15. Don't rage against the machine-- know it.

Climate change deniers and dismissives don't comprise the largest machine in our political space. Even so, it's effective machinery.

Knowing the machine is to know how to disable it. People seeking to help with disassembly need to be fully informed of the machine's inner workings.

Therefore, a shame that this paper is #NotOpenAccess

'Diverging Beliefs on Climate Change and Climate Policy: The Role of Political Orientation'

  16. Sadly this is #NotOpenAccess but perhaps that will change.

'Speedup affects the entire drainage of the Amundsen Sea Embayment sector; the entire west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula down to GeorgeVI Ice Shelf; the east coast down to Larsen C Ice Shelf...

    (a -lot- of dots)...

We attribute the observed glacier changes to increased melting by warmer ocean waters.'
