  1. Incursions along the southern border are extremely common & historically do not prompt such airspace closures. In 2024, Air Force Gen. Greg Guillot, the commander of #NORTHCOM, told the #Senate #ArmedServices Cmte that the number of incursions along the #US #Mexico border was “over a thousand” each month.

The #DEA & other US security agencies have used facilities at the Biggs Army Airfield for years as part of efforts to monitor #Mexico based drug #cartel operations.

  2. I'm still not totally convinced that Trump would be so stupid and crazy to authorize any kind of military incursions into Mexican territory without prior authorization and cooperation given by the Mexican government. I mean, that would put him on the same level of insanity as Nero...

"The Trump administration has directed the military to prepare for lethal strikes against cartel targets inside Mexico, three military sources tell us. The Top Secret planning order, issued in late Spring, directs Northern Command (NORTHCOM) to manage the attack plans, which are to be ready by mid-September.

Though U.S.-Mexico military relations are broad and cooperative, any military action south of the border is considered extremely sensitive for both Washington and the Mexican federal government and is rarely discussed in public.

“Not only is Donald Trump uniquely focused on TCOs [transnational criminal organizations, the official name for cartels], having designated them terrorists in one of his first Executive Orders, but he has shown himself to be willing to take unilateral action despite potentially negative political ramifications,” says one senior intelligence official. He and the other sources say that military action could be unilateral — that is, without the involvement or approval of the Mexican government."

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( #ICE) will determine what the #Marines will do and where they work, according to #NORTHCOM.”

To say the least, Marines deserve better.

  4. The #troops deploying to the #LosAngeles area are from the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the #California #NationalGuard, United States Northern Command said in a post on social media. #USNorthCom said that some of the troops were already on the ground. A #Northcom spokeswoman said more information would be provided soon.

  5. So the #US government shot down something but did neither know what it was, nor find any #debris. That's embarrassing.

"#NORTHCOM said in a statement later in the day that it would end the search for two of the three objects shot down over North #America last weekend, stating that”the US military, federal agencies, and #Canadian partners conducted systematic searches of each area ... and did not locate the debris.”

  6. Santa Claus must be breathing a sigh of fucking relief right now we're past December since #NORAD / #NORTHCOM basically declared open season on anything strange in North American airspace

  7. #NORTHCOM commander: #Debris field from #Chinese balloon is about 15 football fields by 15 football fields.
