  1. I was pretty sure that it's possible to implement a subset of MyTerms (IEEE 7012-2025) on a static web site. Better news: it's possible with no new code on the client side either.

Why? It's a positive side effect of everyone (who pays attention) already having an element-hiding ad blocker.

A user who accepts a specific standard ToS can simply* block the <dialog> element that demands consent to it.

Now working (with one TODO) on my blog blog.zgp.org/next-steps-on-tin

  2. The era of "notice and consent" is ending. 👋

The new IEEE #MyTerms standard defines a machine-readable, enforceable contract for personal privacy. It replaces the endless consent-banner friction & weak enforcement with true two-party agreements.

Big challenge: Getting AdTech & power-holding businesses onboard. Adoption hinges on securing lighthouse partners.

  5. 'm giving a talk on Tuesday about a new standard that flips the script on cookie notices, surveillance, and the adtech fecosystem. Its IEEE P7012, better known as #MyTerms. It'll be on Zoom. More at doc.searls.com/2025/11/14/myte

  6. “MyTerms” wants to become the new way we dictate our #privacy on the web
Author, journalist, and long-time Internet freedom advocate #DocSearls wants us to stop asking for privacy from websites, services, and #AI and start telling these things what we will and will not accept.

Draft #standard IEEE #P7012 , which #Searls has nicknamed "MyTerms" (akin to "Wi-Fi"), is a Draft Standard for Machine Readable Personal Privacy Terms.
