“Refereeing body admits judgement error over Haaland derby winner”
It was that obvious and egregious they’re having to apologise less than 6 hours after the end of the match. Didn’t even need to wait for the KMI panel.
Do United get any points? No. Do United get any recourse? No. Will the officials suffer any consequences? No. Again ProRef get away scott-free (modulo some minor public embarrassment) for what appears to be just blatant match-fixing.
At the very least, this set of officials should never officiate a Manchester derby again (and should get several weeks off plus hefty fines and extensive retraining.)
(Admittedly United don’t really deserve any points–they were an abject shambles–but that’s for the game clock to decide, not obviously corrupt/incompetent officials on a whim.)

Enzo Fernandez is "clearly attempting to play" the ball when in an offside position. It clearly impacts on Lisandro Martinez, who's drawn away from Erling Haaland because Fernandez is diving for the cross. Poor use of VAR. Manchester United will have a grievance over that...
...but so will Manchester City over Bruno Fernandes not seeing red, or even yellow, in the Phil Foden incident. Foden deserved to go, no argument, straight red for violent conduct but Fernandes deserved some sanction. Fernandes is PFA POTY and FWA FOTY and part of the criteria for the vote is sporting attitude.
City deserved the win - their intelligence, work-rate, ball retention and defiance all exceptional. Guehi and Anderson especially immense. City didn't look to have only 10. That's credit to them - and an indictment of United.
Michael Carrick will get questioned - and he could have brought on Benjamin Sesko earlier - but the real questions should be for the United board. They strengthened the attack last summer, midfield this summer and intend to strengthen the defence next summer. Why wait? United's defence needed work last year, let alone wait for next year.
Ineos and United's board have let Carrick down. United have smartened up the front of the house, done up the hallway, but left the back-door open. Diogo Dalot is hardly Gary Neville level. Nor is Noussair Mazraoui. Patrick Dorgu is a risk defensively.
United should long ago have targeted a successor to Luke Shaw (currently injured) and brought one in rather than delay. Praying Shaw stays fit is not a practicable policy. Yes he played 38 PL last season. But, all comps, Shaw has missed 103 games in three seasons (before this). It's frustrating; because Shaw's elite when fit.
As for centre-backs, Harry Maguire and Martinez arrived before Ineos. And they are starting for United. Ayden Heaven will doubtless mature into a very good centre-back one day. Carrick may not be in post by then. He could pay the price because the balance of recruitment was wrong. The Andrey Santos money (£48m; nice work Chelsea) should have been used to strengthen part of the defence.
But nothing should take away from City's deserved win. #MUNMCI

There we go, obvious corruption from Oliver and VAR. Haaland is a mile offside but VAR claims that Fernandez tried to play the ball which puts Haaland onside? Except Fernandez is also offside when the ball is initially played. Just absolute nonsense.
Still, there’s a reason we haven’t won a Manchester derby when Oliver has officiated…

Foolish by Phil Foden, deserved to go, kicked out two-footed at Bruno Fernandes, clear red, “checked and confirmed by VAR” (@[email protected]), violent conduct, three-game ban (inc LFC away). Officials' exchange: Ref Michael Oliver: “Red card Phil Foden – kick out into the body of Bruno”. VAR Matt Donohue: “That looks like a clear red card to me. Looks to be a secondary movement. Confirming the red card for Manchester City’s No 47.” Foden had to walk.
But… Fernandes incredibly fortunate to escape any punishment for initial provocation, kicking Foden twice. Is it a question of who milks contact most? Which team appeals to ref loudest? And why doesn’t VAR look at initial kick by Fernandes? No excuses for Foden’s kick - straight red - but decision-making inconsistent here. #MUNMCI

“I didn’t just play for Manchester United. I lived for them.” Michael Carrick when retiring as a United player in 2018. His blood runs red, still does, and as head coach, he’s restored some traditional qualities, pace, width, intensity, togetherness, attacking, feeding off the fans’ passion and an academy player.
United looked a team again, players looked in their best positions again, system suited them, defence defiant, midfield compact and combative, and a quickness to break. Would have won by more but for Donnarumma.
Carrick will keep his feet on the ground, that’s his way, knowing there’s plenty of rebuilding to do, and challenges to come, Arsenal away next. But this was a step in the right direction for United under Carrick. He’ll be determined to maintain this level of performance. Take it as red. #MUFC #MUNMCI
