Trump asked Germany for ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Our defense minister said no, on camera, in four words: "It's not our war."
Pistorius laid out exactly why. No German military participation outside NATO territory. Not without an international framework. Not without a mandate from the Bundestag. That last part isn't politics, it's Article 24 of the Basic Law. The Chancellor can't send one frigate to the Gulf even if he wants to. Only parliament can.
For anyone living here and watching the Hormuz crisis blow up again this week, that's the whole point. Germany has a constitutional brake built in after 1945 so no minister can drag this country into someone else's war on a phone call.
"We didn't start it. We want diplomatic solutions and a swift end."
Not every "no" makes the news. This one should.
