DISARM ISRAEL FIRST.
Unlike 1953, this time the Trump regime and Israel's attempted regime change failed. Bad news for the Iranian people, who have lost whatever chance they had to bring the change they wanted themselves. Iran's regime though would be missing an opportunity not to tie any future negotiation about its nuclear program to Israel's. Israel was, after all, directly involved in this pathetic attempt, and very likely committed far graver crimes against humanity than the current regime, or the Shah's, as hard as it might seem to imagine.

As a critical matter of work avoidance, I ended up on a side-quest/rat hole on the "Persian Corridor" in World War 2 and the overthrow of Prime Minister Mosaddegh of Iran in 1953. A bit of a background refresher on where "we" (the U.S.) are currently in our glorious war of liberation of the Strait of Hormuz (/s!)

#Documentary / Coup 53: CIA and MI6 overthrow of Iran’s budding Democracy in 1953
In 1953, the #CIA and #MI6 orchestrated a covert operation to overthrow #Iran’s democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad #Mosaddegh after he nationalized the oil industry, threatening Western corporate interests.
The 2019 documentary “Coup 53” by Iranian filmmaker Taghi Amirani exposes this historic betrayal of democracy using never-before-seen archival footage and documents. The film features Ralph Fiennes reading transcripts from MI6 agent Norman Darbyshire, who admitted involvement in the coup plot.
This wasn’t just regime change - it was the blueprint for decades of U.S. covert operations worldwide. The coup installed the autocratic Shah, whose brutal rule lasted until the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
The documentary proves what many suspected: democratic governments mean nothing in the context of Western imperialism when they threaten corporate profits or regional interests.

In 1953, the #shah was forced into exile under the radical nationalist and reformist impulse of the democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad #Mosaddegh. He was shortly returned to his throne through a #CIA-orchestrated #coup.

CIA historian Brent Geary, appearing on the podcast, agrees.
“This is one of the exceptions to that,” Geary says."
