Had an epiphany yesterday while working on settings storage on the #MIDISID custom firmware.
I was having trouble getting littlefs working on the RP2040 in #TinyGo and it suddenly hit me that bothering with the overhead of a filesystem was probably quite silly when I wasn't planning to access the settings externally. So now I'm just writing a bunch of data to flash directly.
Only catch is needing to worry about write block sizes and make sure I don't overwrite other data within the same block

Not quite ready for primetime but I just got a significant chunk of my unfinished custom RP2040 firmware for the #MIDISID working in #TinyGo @TinyGo . Decided porting my code over from PlatformIO/Arduino would be a good way to start learning Go.
I still need to get each of my menus/screens working again but the SID chips work, the I2C Display works, the Encoders work (customized library for I2C IO expander), and MIDI works (wrote my own lightweight handler for MIDI over traditional UART).

When you're stomping memory leaks on custom firmware for a cool synth you might have reverse engineered for fun... #midisid @shieladixon 😅
Focusing on learning the SID and brewing a live performance-oriented, responsive monosynth firmware and a different control scheme than the original firmware (which is quite good still!)

Finished up my changes to my MidiSID. Added a side switch for power, and increased the angle of the display. It now lives next to the MT-32 in the MIDI mole-hill, and I feel like this stack is ready to ride again on a stream when time allows.
For your listening pleasure, have a mix of the Swan Lake Overture from Loom, captured simultaneously on the MidiSID, the MT-32, the SC-55 and the Yamaha MU-80, all in their respective MT-32-like modes.

I'm adapting my #MIDISID to a more Rack mount friendly version. Today I cut a cover plate from 2.2mm perspex using the @leigh_hackspace Shapeoko Pro #cnc
Looking forward to getting this finished and back in my rack with its friends.

@nikdoof @leigh_hackspace @CatRyan The plastics came out well. Gonna try and finish off the #MidiSID rack conversion this weekend.

Definitely need to finish the mods to the #MIDISid and get it all up in this mix.
This stack is ridiculous, but effective.

Acquired this Arturia Keystep for not many pennies. A few dead keys, labelled as spare or repair. A bit naughty of the seller to have not mentioned they have tried to previously access the inside of the keyboard and stripped the screw heads, but I've got a nice pair of Engineering pliers designed for just that. A little nervous opening it, in case of damage.
Cleaned the pads, cleaned the contacts, all the keys now work. Delighted, because the Novation Mini MK3 is a *terrible* general purpose MIDI controller. This one is a delight.
The #MidiSID makes a great compact test tool. ;-)
