I just finished “Walls of Change: the Story of the Wynwood Walls” & enjoyed reading about how the project for an outdoor art gallery open to muralists, graffiti artists, & more came to be, especially because I visited it a few weeks ago during my trip to Miami (FL). The book is full of gorgeous photos by noted photographer Martha Cooper & quotes from artists who contributed murals over the past 15 years

3/3 Then, I checked out The Underline, a trail starting from the Miami River which runs underneath the elevated rail and features multiple areas where the modes of travel are split.
I did have a nice 1.5 hour nap afterwards

2/3 Down the block was the Museum of Graffiti which I also visited. It had a lot of history of the art, how graffiti influenced & continues to influence culture, & profiled important graffiti artists.
I then felt some Miami vibes at lunch including esquites & shrimp tacos

1/3 For my 3rd day in Miami, I biked to art district Wynwood today to visit the Wynwood Walls outdoor mural gallery. Murals & graffiti are my favorite types of art. The last pic is my favorite of all the murals, a queer depiction by artist Lauren Ys

Leg 1 of my vacation is ending, and I had a visit home to Virginia that felt packed yet fulfilling with a lot of catching up and deep conversations with friends & family that will stay in my mind for a long time
