Got to briefly chat about #Metagaming microgames on work Slack earlier this week. Which reminds me that I should see if I can complete my collection, as I have most of them in good condition.

(#eBay is still a site worth visiting if looking for old stuff. If you don’t want to lowball the price, there is often a lot of good copies to choose from.)

My favorite non-TFT game of theirs was WarpWar. Although I probably played Helltank more than any other.

I really wish I could play online games more, but these days it seems like in order to be remotely competitive you have to have so much meta-knowledge memorized.

I've been playing AoE4 lately (pve) and I checked out the subreddit for it to see what the online community is like, and unsurprisingly - people are going on nonstop about optimal build orders and meta-strategies.

To each their own, and I'm sure that's fun for a lot of people, but I want to just play the game, not memorize a pre-determined set of moves and follow it to the letter

Sporo znajomych graczy/graczek pyta mnie dlaczego nie kupiłem sobie jeszcze #PlayStation5 lub #XboxSeriesX i czemu kupuję gry niemal wyłącznie na #Steam. Myślę, że to ciekawy temat do dyskusji. Wolę grać na #PC i #SteamDeck, bo lubię używać różnych kontrolerów (klawiatur, myszy, gamepadów, arcade sticków, lightgunów, VR-setów) i komputer daje mi najszersze spektrum eksperymentowania.

Preferuję Steama, bo ma najwięcej możliwości konfiguracji i API pozwala korzystać z wielu serwisów zewnętrznych (np. steamspy.com, jeśli ktoś jest ciekawy statystyk dotyczących popularności jakiejś gry itp.). Trochę szkoda, że nie można skonfigurować sobie "widoku" od zera, jak chociażby w programie #foobar2000, ale i tak użytkownicy Steama mają dużo więcej opcji dostosowywania aplikacji pod swoje preferencje, niż użytkownicy innych launcherów lub konsol.

Niektórych znajomych dziwi, że nie kupiłem np. Assassin's Creed Valhalla wcześniej, że czekałem, aż ta gra pojawi się na Steamie. Powodów było kilka: mam dużo gier (ponad 8000) i nie miałem ciśnienia; wolałem poczekać, aż gra zostanie połatana, rozwinięta i przeceniona; chciałem mieć ją na Steamie, choćby po to, by mieć screenshoty z tej gry w tym samym miejscu, co z poprzednich części. Teraz bawię się z nią (AC:V) świetnie (przyjaciółka oceniała ją krytycznie ze względu na fabułę, a mnie się ta fabuła całkiem podoba), mam tylko zastrzeżenia dotyczące mechanik/silnika, ale to temat na odrębną polemikę.
