  1. Had been meaning to change the incandescent floodlights to LED so will do so, at least with that one. The particular bulb that shattered was burnt out anyway, but the one beside it is still intact and functional.
The thermometer had been in service for well over a decade with it's plastic housing perhaps a bit more brittle with so much exposure to the elements. The Sun UV had turned it a shade of beige.
Luckily, I have several spares and it's been replaced with a "new" white one. #mbstorm

  2. Quite the active weather situation here since late yesterday afternoon.
Mainly a heavy rain event where I am, which started around 16:30-16:45, continuing off-and-on into the overnight.
Had 76 mm rain to midnight, with an additional 40 mm since -- an #mbstorm total of 116 mm. This is inline with the downtown The Forks station, which reported 117 mm.
There was some nickel sized hail, too, with minor damage to insides of eavestroughs, a broken outdoor thermometer, & a 100 w floodlight bulb.

  3. Tornado reported on the ground east of #Morris; very strong rotation in this tornado-warned severe thunderstorm heading NNE towards #Otterburne and #Niverville. Get to cover if you are in the path of this storm! #MBstorm

#Winnipeg may see severe hail or rain with this, but it’s an evolving situation. Stay alert for any warnings issued by ECCC!

  4. Dangerous thunderstorms possible this afternoon in #MBstorm. Stay sky aware and pay attention to any weather alerts issued by ECCC later today. Have a plan to seek shelter if necessary! #Winnipeg

  5. Conversely, here’s the HRRR model, which generally performs better with convection than the HRDPS, showing not even 1/10th of an inch of rain in #Winnipeg / #MBstorm for that same time period. Weather models. 🙄

  6. Let’s hope ECCC’s HRDPS model is — as truthfully it quite often is — wrong about tomorrow evening/night’s rainfall accumulations for #Winnipeg / #MBstorm in thunderstorm activity. Such a broad swath of 6” of rain in a 12 hour period, including the City of Winnipeg, would likely be catastrophic.

  7. @weatherinthepeg with the sophisticated coil spring for a tornado symbol.
    Thanks for the heads-up.
Any chance you could auto post these as images via your account through the #mbstorm #skstorm #abstorm season?

  8. Sweltering Summer Heat Arrives This Weekend

A strong low-pressure system moving into the Prairies will bring hot weather back to Winnipeg this weekend. Unlike the last heat wave, significant humidity will build into the region with this warm air and make for a sweltering end to the weekend.

  9. Heat Wave Breaks With Cooler, Unsettled Weather Ahead

The late-spring heat wave is breaking over southern Manitoba with unsettled weather ushering in cooler temperatures.

  10. Currently in a dust storm in the trough of a huge low pressure system.

In this satellite still, the obscuring dust advances on #Winnipeg. #mbstorm

  11. Warmer, Unsettled, and Breezy Weather Ahead

Spring has finally settled into southern Manitoba and is bringing warming temperatures for the week. WIth this change, though, will come numerous chances for showers or thunderstorms along with frequently windy conditions.

  12. #mbstorm I have been in whiteouts on prairie roads many times, and they are scary. Just drove from Grace Hospital to Polo Park on Portage Ave. and was at zero visibility 3 times in that 7 km. Holy blizzard, batman, everyone be careful out there.

  13. @AndrewHenry and it truly is -24 in Winnipeg. This is a potent system heading east. #mbstorm

  14. @mike can confirm, but #mbstorm could have been worse

  15. Although we've officially been in winter mode here the past couple of weeks, the #mbstorm outlook for tonight into tomorrow will certainly make it a blizzard-y winter wonderland. Enough snow for plenty of snowballs but will be kinda cold for them to hold together very well as snow becomes more grainy or powdery the colder it gets.

At least @emmamckeon had some fun with them during her recent visit to Switzerland (she needed to wear her entire wardrobe to keep warm):

  16. A well-defined warm front is evident over the western Prairies this evening, and is the driver of a disturbance that will bring snow to southern #MBstorm tomorrow. Not expecting a whole lot, perhaps 2–5 cm, but it’ll be the first notable accumulation of the year for #Winnipeg. More on @aweathermoment in the morning!
