eeeeevery day they keep pushing the Expected Return to Service into the future.
It's been over a week and a large swath of Alberta is not covered by radar. During storm season. Brilliant.
Screengrab from https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/weather-general-tools-resources/radar-overview/outages-maintenance.html on 20 Aug.

Yes yes. We know. Rain, funnel clouds, storms, more rain, funnel clouds?, more rain.
It ALSO would be super swell if the Carvel (CASCV) radar hadn't completely sh*t the bed - it's been offline for more than 23 hours at this point. And the outage is not even shown on the govt's outage web page!? 🤔 https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/weather-general-tools-resources/radar-overview/outages-maintenance.html

oh heyyyyy! targeted, polygon-based warnings for severe t-storms & tornadoes!! FINALLY 🙌
if you had a general understanding of radar products & enjoyed nerding out over storm tracks, you kinda knew whether you were in danger or not. This will help folks outside of those two categories a lot I think 😅 and hopefully will also help with warning fatigue, as the warnings should start to become a lot more relevant.

Groat Road… I mean Groat River tonight…

the storm was a bit wilder than expected. 25mm of rain in about 15 mins at my house in the northeast, for a total of 27mm over a half hour. went from 28C to 13C, and i truly appreciate the cold, lakewater fresh air cooling off our house tonight.

Severe thunderstorm alert for just West of #yeg. Red warning. 🔴 This one looks NASTY. Baseball sized or greater (!!) hail etc. Vaguely tracking towards #Edmonton.
"At 7:43 p.m. MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking an extremely dangerous thunderstorm capable of producing damaging wind gusts, baseball size or greater hail and heavy rain.
This dangerous thunderstorm is just west of Entwistle and is moving to the east at 45 km/h."

Edmonton Fire Rescue is quite busy tonight.
-
Not sure what took out the instance for a few minutes there, power is still on, but maybe there was something upstream with Telus that was hit.
Quite the storm tonight. Hope everyone that was out at events and festivals found shelter before it blew in!

Summer nighttime thunderstorms. My favourite.
If only the ground wasn't so saturated already.

There is no better smell than the nitrogen off of rain.
Period the end. I pine for this smell 6 months of the year.

Oversaw yesterday - the storm pond on the west end of Camrose by the Mr. Mike's has flooded the walking path.
6 inches of rain recorded in 48-ish hours. Here's hoping that the submerged tree survives.
An incredible amount of rain this weekend. My parents' acreage saw 1/10 of an inch in just half an hour around 7 pm last night.

❗ Overland Flow Flood alert for #Edmonton
Reduce water use (delay showers/baths, laundry, dishwasher, etc).
-
When floods or wildfires happen in Alberta, as a polite Canadian you MUST wait 90 days before even mentioning any connection to fossil fuels or climate change. Sorry, I don't make the rules. /s #abstorm

When you get 4cm of rain in 24 hours and you live on a former swamp.
Sump is running every 30 seconds now (45 seconds when I filmed this at midnight), and there's no sign of the rain letting up until Monday.

@weatherinthepeg with the sophisticated coil spring for a tornado symbol.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Any chance you could auto post these as images via your account through the #mbstorm #skstorm #abstorm season? -
