#Periodical #cicadas of the #genus #Magicicada are characterized by the fact that the #nymphs live extremeky longer than the adults; they require 13 to 17 years to complete their development. Their #massemergence following the final #molt is a natural spectacle in the eastern #UnitedStates, one that is now, however, threatened by land use and #deforestation.
