This trailer for the fangame Super Mario Bros Remastered looks fucking *awesome*, however...
How many more times are we going to have to do this before people start to learn? How many more fangames are going to do this and get "cease and desisted" to death before the release before you figure out this is a bad idea?
No announce trailer months ahead of time. No Discord. Drop it somewhere with no credits. Game gets out there, stays alive and no one knows who to go after for it.
Also, how can you claim it is fully open source when you straight up use Nintendo's original artwork, assets and level designs?

Grabbed a three month subscription to Nintendo Switch Online because....I promised I'd make my daughter some #MarioMaker2 levels.
I made a few for her when she was 3....but she's significantly more capable now and I both adore the game and tolerate her presence (I jest) so I guess it's a match made in heaven right?
Now I just need to find the 5-6 hours it usually takes to make a decent level.

Instead we got a company who's so apprehensive about the mere thought of online play that it's wings were clipped before it even left the nest.

I've got some thoughts on where Nintendo failed the #MarioMaker2 community. And naturally with #Nintendo, they're mainly based around how the game, and the company deals with it's online aspects.
Not allowing makers to download courses and see the inner workings was a mistake. Not allowing players to browse via a browser/app was a mistake. Not launching with Worlds was a mistake.
The core is incredible, and I can't wait for 3 but holy fuck Nintendo get out of your own way.

Because let me tell you. #MarioMaker2 was extremely my shit for the first year after it's release. I played 10+ hours of it a week for that year and loved every moment of it.

Just loaded up the Switch for the first time in...a few months at least.
Tried to see how my #MarioMaker2 levels were doing and it looks like even the ability to see if anyone is playing them is hidden behind the Nintendo Online thing.
Real bummer.
