"Power of the Pacific", I call this one; taken last summer during that fortunate day I spent on the Lost Coast of California, where the sands are black, the winds are stiff, and the crash of the waves becomes your whole world (hard to tell in the picture, but this spray enveloped a volume *much* taller than me; it was *big*!).

What must Malibu have looked like when it was still wild? Maybe a lot like this shot. Oh, it's lusher and more formidable, the light hits different that far north, but at Shelter Cove's Black Sands Beach, you can still see it..."True California", taken by yours truly last summer.

Just got back from my second day perusing the North Country Fair in Arcata, which is a huge arts fair with vendors from all over northern California and Oregon.
I got to chat briefly with some artists, and purchased some prints and cards. I’m really happy with what I got, and they’ll all look gorgeous in my home!
I also got to talk with an artist who used mesh walls to suspend her artwork, and I may consider that at some point. Pricey investment, but potentially a solution to my ever-shrinking table-top space. If I ever want to upgrade to selling a lot of framed prints, I’m going to invest in a way to do that. It was nice seeing the walls in action, and I was impressed!

I think we may be moving to Eureka. Our trip to Sacramento has just proved we wouldn’t be saving any money by moving there from San Diego. The smaller pond of Eureka will actually proffer more opportunities for me as a beginning artist, and I guess it just feels less like an average city with all the same stuff as any other community.
We’ve spent the last couple days in Sacramento looking at places we can afford, and there aren’t many that met our requirements where we’d actually feel safe. Lots of smaller apartments, but all on the steeper end than we will be able to afford. So moving there would be a lateral move for us, and therefore pointless.
Eureka comes with a lot of downsides. But we think the benefits outweigh them. For us. So we’ll begin watching the listings while we wait until June (probably) when more options become available as students end their leases after Cal Poly Humboldt gets out for the summer.

A couple elephant seals snoozing in the grass outside the window of the powerhouse at the Punta Gorda Lighthouse. They're a chatty bunch! Lots of clacks and posturing, but not so noisy as sea lions.
