"Power of the Pacific", I call this one; taken last summer during that fortunate day I spent on the Lost Coast of California, where the sands are black, the winds are stiff, and the crash of the waves becomes your whole world (hard to tell in the picture, but this spray enveloped a volume *much* taller than me; it was *big*!).

“Little Sur River and Beach” — The Little Sur River meets the Pacific Ocean on the Big Sur Coast.
I confess to having photographed this scene quite a few times. I live close enough to Big Sur that I can drive down for a morning of photography and be home for a late lunch. This spot, where the Little Sur River flows across Little Sur Beach and into the Pacific Ocean, has always intrigued me. "Waiting for the Customers", I dubbed this shot: a rare moment when the Cheesecake Factory at Redondo Beach was all but vacant, and the ambiance of waiters' activity and the sailboats bobbing up and down ever-so-gently in the harbor created a vibe that...well, maybe it wasn't *unique*, but it was certainly *memorable*.

They extend into other states' waters too, but Oregon has by far the most: you see a sandy beach graced by the sublime surf of the Pacific Ocean...and just offshore there are these huge rocks everywhere.
