Dear Fediverse,
my father-in-law needs a new printer/scanner/copy combo, that needs to be supported by Linux (now that I got him away from Windows).
I found the HP printers being supported by HPLIP:
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/indexAny experiences with the OfficeJet Pro 9132e / Officejet Pro 9120 / OfficeJetPro 8132e?
As far as I found out all of them should support copying from the device (without a compuer needed). Ink will be expensive for all of them (regardless of the manufacturer).
All of the recent Epson and Brother printers that I found seem not to be supported, at least I did not find them on openprinting.org.

Pro tip: If you have a Brother laser printer and it's not working on Linux over a network to print but scanning works, you may need to switch it from IPP over the IPP protocol to IPP over the DNSSD protocol.

It's not as fancy as AI but you know what blows my mind? Turning on my wireless printer and getting a notification the unit was configured while I figure where the print manager is on my newly installed Linux Mint system.
