So, #printers. Did you know there's an entire circle of #hell just filled with printers? And they all "worked just fine yesterday". Evil #sysadmins and #cybercriminals are sent there to fix them. Fun fact: printers aren't assembled in factories. They are simply summoned from that plane into our realm. If you ever though your printer is possessed by daemons, you were wrong. The printer IS the #daemon

The #temperature in #Tehran reached 95° #Fahrenheit, but Arash* kept working in his #lab. It’s full of filament #tools and #3D #printers that he uses to produce #Iranian #Shahed-136 #drones — but tiny ones, only 15 cm long.
His #customers don’t send them into #battle. They put them on shelves, desks and #display cases.

I really really want #OpenPrinter to come into existence soon! and at a price I can justify.
I could do with a not too chonky printer right now for handy printing of this and that, and I don't want to buy a different one when that one might become available soon.
There was an update in June saying "We are working tirelessly on the finishing touches before we launch our Crowd Supply campaign at some point in the next few months." So it really _could_ be soon-ish.
That said, I appreciate the team's wisdom in _not_ naming a date yet, because I know that the "few" in "few months" can stretch when it's a matter of ironing out technical nuances.
Wishing them luck!

Printers: the IT’s nightmare
I've been in IT circa for twenty-seven years and one of the most frustrating issue a users (or a sysadmin) can have is to deal with some (rubbish) printer hardware or software. It goes from a simple black and white HP printer connected via USB cable to a Windows laptop to the big network Xerox unit with 6 trays of paper and lots of additional features. If you have the ‘wrong’ combo of operating system and driver you're doomed forever (or, at least, until you give up and change the […]https://nicolalosito.it/2026/07/29/printers-the-its-nightmare/

I'm reluctantly browsing #printers.
Does anyone have any experience with the Epson EcoTank printers? Specifically, their ability to print onto transparencies.
Alternatively, would anyone care to recommend an A4 printer/scanner for transparencies?
Wading through "reviews" is so infuriating these days. *shakes fist*

HP, a fine instrument* and then computer and then printer manufacturer. Then they decided that ink and services were the route to board enrichment.
Happy to say I have not lost a minutes sleep to never buying one after I left the company many moons ago (but my LaserJet 5 is still going strong — a different era)
*yes I know that went off to Agilent

The great printer rebellion of 2026 has escalated.
We currently have two printers down and one that I just learned has been having problems for a long time, but no one bothered to report it to IT.
This morning, in my partner's home office, I bent down to get something and jammed my head right into the manual feed tray on her printer. Like little head wounds do, it bled like hell for a few minutes.
It was no accident. Printers have become sentient, and they're pissed.

I've just spent several hours trying to get a Brother QL-500 label printer working with Linux. I have failed. Fuck all #printers .
It's not even working with the configuration I managed to get working (with support from the driver authors) last time I tried using this damn thing.

Have you ever wanted to buy a printer for your zines and asked yourself: can I feed it after midnight? can I get it wet? yes?
Well the good news is I just published The Zinesters Guide to Printers and Toner which covers nearly everything I know about printing zines on printers!
Check it out on my Ko-Fi:

I also posted a preview chapter on DRM you can checkout: https://ko-fi.com/post/Preview-Chapter-J5L4226P6S

I appreciate the mission, but relying on HP cartridges makes this a complete non-starter

Working prototype of open-source printer that promises user-repairability and no subscriptions appears in first video — DRM-free 'Open Printer' inkjet still has no announced price, ship date, or print speed, nine months after it first appeared

🎩 Oh, look! Another tech genius reinventing the wheel by setting up a glorified code helper on #macOS with more acronyms than a secret government project. Meanwhile, the rest of us are still grappling with getting our #printers to work. 🖨️😂

My printer became officially inefficient. I need to buy a new one. I'm thinking about investing in an ink tank printer.
What brands do you recommend for Linux?

Australian who smuggled 50 pounds of cocaine hidden inside printers get nine years behind bars — five devices intercepted by border forces had compressed powder stuffed in the paper trays

This is probably old hat for the computer heads, but today I learned that a catalyst for the GNU General Public License was a broken, closed-source Xerox laser printer at MIT. 🖨️
As the winds of change blow around your computer, take comfort that printers have always sucked and will suck for your grand kids too.
